Cyprus is Greek and Cypriots (the vast majority of them, those who have 1000s of years history on this island) are Greek. The only reason why Cyprus is not part of the Greek state today is that this right was denied to the Cypriot people by the foreign imperialists.

well said piratis !!!!!!!!!!! to the point, miltiades and Get Real are still CONFUSED !!!! A Greek does not have to be someone from Greece only !!!! To be Cypriot is to be Greek ...our history culture language religion confirms that..a perfect analogy are the Sicilians who have a strong regional identity and are different from the Italians in many ways but are still Italians...

Please help me understand you:

In what way does a Cypriot who is of a Greek speaking Christian persuation, deny anything from a Cypriot who is of a Turkish speaking Muslim persuation?

How does this differ in anyway from any Cypriot of either persuation living in the UK?
Well said P-S.......Have you taken it one step further and applied that to the TCs?????

Ethnic minorities exist everywhere Zan. You can have whatever identity you want. You can be "Turkish Cypriot", "Cypriot Turk", "Turk", "Cypriot", "Muslim Cypriot", "Ottoman" etc, but you should also respect our identity, and understand that we are the majority and the people who shaped the culture and identity of this island for 1000s of years.

With one hand you offer me the right to call myself what I want but with the other you take away my right by being stuck in another age where supposed Greek culture rules the day. Every culture that has passed through Cyprus has shaped our culture not just the Greek one. Natural change has made sure you are nothing like the Greeks of the mainland. Whilst you maintain your right to Greekness you deny my right to anything else. Quite different to what I am offering you. You want to oppress me but I am saying you can do what you want in your little bit of Cyprus. I say keep your preferences and I will keep mine but you say you have the right to preserve your Greekness at the expense of my culture.

Gc's have always told me they are not Greek they are Cypriot, but as I suspected this isnot true. Why would you fly the Greek Flag in Cyprus. Here in Australia, we don't fly the British flag (although the union jack is imbedded in it), or the USA flag?

All I can think of is Enosis still exists.

The Greek Flag represents freedom and democracy -- the stuff which allowed you to "take a trip down south" without fear!

Care to explain what your mess on our mountain represents?

Greek culture is the predominant culture in Cyprus today, not just in the past. Yes, every culture that passed through Cyprus has left its mark, but this is not something unique for Cyprus. Mainland Greece was under Ottoman rule for far more than Cyprus for example. And Asia Minor was home to some of the greatest civilizations on earth which have absolutely nothing to do with the Turks, and yet today you call Asia Minor "Turkey" because this is what the Turks, who are the majority now, want to call it. So why Cyprus should be any different? Cyprus is predominantly Greek today, just like it has been predominantly Greek for several 1000s years.

So it is about time you start respecting the identity and culture of the vast majority of the population, and understand that it is the vast majority of the population that gives to a place its identity, not a small ethnic minority.

Your ethnic minority has the right to preserve your language, religion and culture and in no way being a minority in a Greek island deprives you from those rights. After all it was your choice to became a minority in an island with a predominantly Greek population, not ours.

My "Ethnic Turkish CYPRIOT" minority will hang on to what we have and have right to as true Cypriots thank you Piratis. Our language, our culture and our rights to represent and rule ourselves........See you in a couple of hundred years time and we can talk again.........Perhaps without your ancestors plans to make sure we stay a minority with murder and making life hard so we HAVE to leave, we will be the majority by then and you can take minority status.....Make sure you leave a will stating you will not accept the status or your vote will be wasted!!!!

I couldn't concur with you.... Cypriots complain that Cypriots don't get along, then they are nasty to other Cypriots like there's no tomorrow and they wonder why.

People need to invest individual effort to make peace a possibility....

Shit a brick sideways! So far the efforts of most here are the most pathetic efforts possible.

Perhaps, ...Oracle should also add that the Greek Flag also now represents being ...Skint, Broke, Bankrupt!!!

No-ones fault, but there own either!! ...Perhaps she also wants Cyprus to follow suit on this score also??

Funny how these bigoted people have very short memories when it suits them!! ...Greece has been more of a problem to Cyprus than any homeland or friend ....and Cyprus has always had to pay the price!!!!

Guys.....If it was as easy as that it would have been solved long ago.....These discussions show the difficulties that exist and they are not just about if we are nice to one another or not.
