No, being “Greek” was just a peasant’s fad predominantly from the 1930s to the 70s, that came and went! Today, nobody wants to be “Greek” anymore… not even Greeks themselves; they’re ashamed of their own country!

These days it’s in fashion to be Cypriot whilst being Greek means being a loser!

So, you should stop denying Cypriots of what they want to be…THEMSELVES!

GR, you make the mistake of applying what is true for yourself to the majority of Cypriots. You are really not part of the majority when it comes to identity, and I think it is time for you to realize this fact.

Gc's have always told me they are not Greek they are Cypriot, but as I suspected this isnot true. Why would you fly the Greek Flag in Cyprus. Here in Australia, we don't fly the British flag (although the union jack is imbedded in it), or the USA flag?

All I can think of is Enosis still exists.

Cyprus is Greek and Cypriots (the vast majority of them, those who have 1000s of years history on this island) are Greek. The only reason why Cyprus is not part of the Greek state today is that this right was denied to the Cypriot people by the foreign imperialists.

Piratis do please allow me to raise a fundamental point in response to your assertion that Cyprus is Greek and the people on it are Greeks.
Where may I ask does it leave people such as I , a proud Cypriot and one who considers himself a Greek Cypriot but in no way a Greek .We use therm ELLINOKIPREOS and ELLADITIS.
We are Cypriots first and foremost , have NEVER been a part of Greece , we are related there is no doubt about that but we not Greeks we are Cypriots.

The answer is simple Miltiades: It leaves you in the minority of the people who are Cypriots but are not Greek. Or rather in the minority of people who capitulated to foreign pressure and gave up their ethnicity as a result.

The "Cypriots first and foremost" can be true, but it depends on how you see it. I can also say I am "Limassolian first and foremost". Or I am of "XYZ family first and foremost". Or I am "Piratis first and foremost". Or we could go the other way and say we are "Humans of planet earth first and foremost". All of those statements would be true. I can be Piratis, Limassolian, Cypriot, Greek, European and human of plant Earth. None of those identities contradicts another and they can all be true at the same time.

No foreign can tell us what our identity should be. It is only up to each one of us to decide with our own free will, without pressure and blackmails.

Cyprus doesn't need to be part of the modern Greek state to be Greek. Unless you will claim that there was nothing Greek until less than 2 centuries ago when the first Greek state was formed. The only reason that Cyprus is not part of the modern Greek state is that this right was refused to us by foreign imperialists.

I sense resentment here... did you want Enosis?

Oh!!! please noooooooooooooooo

Piratis I have never denied or refuted the undeniable fact that I'm a Greek Cypriot , not a Greek.Vast difference I think. The same equally applies to T/Cs , but all of us are primarily Cypriots and we have a common motherland the island of Cyprus. Do please bare in mind that Cyprus was around long before the Greeks set foot on the island some 3-3500 years ago.
Furthermore Cyprus is an independent nation , albeit part of it under Turkish military occupation but nevertheless an independent nation encompassing all Cypriots not just the G/C majority.

Hang on a minute, my dear. That piece-of-shit constitution, foisted on the Cypriot people by foreigners and imperialists for their benefit and not ours, also gave Turkey intervention rights. Me and some others have a problem with this. How about you?

Or don't you care, so long as you have the right to fly the blue and white stripes of Modern Greece?

Rather prescient, don't you think, given what followed?
