to the person who said i need to do more research:, i actually researched the conflict both past and present extensively for a modern history assignment, and looked objectively at both 'sides' of the argument so i am familiar with what led to the partition e.g. push for enosis, rising tensions; attempts at reconciliation e.g. Annan Plan and current issues including Turkey's attempts at membership in the EU.
to the person who informed me of the number of GC deaths:, it is incredibly tragic that so many lost their lives and i dont want to devalue the pain and suffering of not only they but those that are still affected by their deaths. but something i came across extensively in my research was that many sources were incredibly biased, with GC sources detailing only the number of GC deaths and those missing; and TC sources detailing only the number of TC deaths and those missing. both sides should stop trying to pretend they were completely innocent in all this. thousands upon thousands of both Greek cypriots and Turkish cypriots died and sources should respect them by including not only the number of their own people lost but also that of the other people.
Thanks Shalay for saying ''sources should respect them by including not only the number of their own people lost but also that of the other people''
we need more sensible ones like u in this forum to Analise Cyprus problem and find solution in our country. Yes there is a always other side of the coin too. there is no end for blame ! Blaming others does not help at all. We have agenda in front of us called BBF solution in Cyprus. We must work on it and just playing for a time . we must find kind of solution that we can not have the dark days of the past ! we must forced our leaderships to find workable solution for both side of the Cyprus....
well come to forum Shalay we need more TC's in this forum to express their free ideas.
The so called "BBF" is nothing more than something which the Cypriot people accepted to negotiate after being BLACKMAILED by the Turkish army keeping 1/3rd of Cyprus as hostage and violating the human rights of 100s of thousands of people.
"BBF", especially in the way that the Turks and TCs demand it, would legalize ethnic cleansing, segregate people along ethnic lines, impose racist discriminations among the Cypriot citizens (on the expense of the majority) and would definitely lead to more problems and hate. "BBF" has absolutely nothing to do the system that normal multi-ethnic democratic countries like Australia have.
So your "agenda" of today is nothing more than the same old agenda that you had in the past: Divide Cyprus and discriminate against us. With such an agenda the only thing you can gain is more hate against you, and rightly so.
