I was chatting to an elderly gentleman of 75 years today and in the midst of the conversation I took the time to telephone the 'Carob Restaurant' in order to convey my good wishes to those members dining there.
The mention of 'Carob' brought a smile to his lips and he began to relate a most interesting tale about 'Carob Beans'.
It would appear that during the war years in Great Britain, Cyprus exported a considerable amount of the beans to GB as a substitute for chocolate (which was a rare commodity in those days) as a special treat for the children, the beans were distributed quite freely to the schoolchildren and, though he has not savoured any since, he says he can well remember the distinctive taste.
According to the chap, the beans in their native lands were used predominantly as 'Cattle Fodder' and a rather amusing thought crossed my mind as he made mention of the fact.
Could THAT be the reason for why so many elderly male Brits are so 'Bull-headed' these days, could THAT explain the reason for why so many elderly female Brits are such 'Old Cows' ?.
Any member who can either remember/add to/dismiss or otherwise comment on the 'Carob Bean', please do so.
Realizing that my comments may attract a certain amount of criticism, may I immediately add that I am not generalising BUT, I do think there may be a little humour in there somewhere.
