Anorthosis Trabzonspor 2nd leg

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

This island is turning into a cultural desert and the football chants that are heard - no matter who the opponent is, after all, confrontation is the most important thing for the majority of them and if they cannot have Turks as opponents anyone else who is slightly different will do - remind one of the infamous Roman Arenas.

Vre Bananiot, I think you are exaggerating a little bit :)

it wasnt ataturks voice for sure. it was just a announcer or something. his job normally is to announce emergency stuff etc but at then when it was understood that theres a chance of losing, he trying to pump up the crowd by saying stuff like "come one trabzon fans, trabzon gool gool gool"

plus: i am pretty sure that website is official

I think it's on at 9pm, not 7. It's going to be televised on a subscriber channel, Alpha TV. But don't worry, I'm not going to watch it either... :(

Bananiot wrote:Marx said that religion is the opium of the masses and paraphrasing this, one could easily say that football, in all banana republics, is the opium of the masses. I am sad that Cypriots are more concerned with football than other aspects of our civilisation that appeal to the spirit rather than the sheer crude sentiment. Try to go to the thearte in Cyprus and you will get depressed to see always the same few people. The shows that attract some more viewers need to be bad-tasting comedies which again aim at the primitive sentiments. We live in a desert in Cyprus and if I complain about this, may be, it is because I love this place a bit more than some people in this forum.

Bit late but I thought I would toss in this related Noam Chomsky quote

Sports plays a societal role in engendering jingoist and chauvinist attitudes. They're designed to organize a community to be committed to their gladiators.

An official team's website is one that is sponsored by the team's officials. The www.anorthosis.net website is designed and maintained by the team's fans so its not official. Actually i dont think that Anorthosis has an official website.
