Anorthosis Trabzonspor 2nd leg

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby brother » Wed Aug 03, 2005 11:15 am

Its a big shame that the Anorthosis team has been treated in this way and i cannot justify these actions, sorry my friends that Turkey felt the need to act in this manner.

It is interesting to compare the reaction of the Turks to the arrival of Anorthosis on Turkish soil and the reaction Trabzonspor got in Cyprus.

We have academics, businessmen and poiliticians signing an open letter that the Greek Cypriot side should be treated like the Greeks were in 1922 and like the Greek Cypriots were in 1974! This from a country that wishes to become a part of Europe.

We have people here saying that the reaction of the police in Turkey to the massive influx of Greek Cypriots (all 150 of them) necessitated that they be treated as animals by the police and that was a natural show of the public reaction against the EU! Since when were the police supposed to make 'political' statements like that.

Anyway, I hope UEFA takes note of how the Turkish authorities are dealing with this game. If this were to happen in any other European country UEFA would very quickly slap a big fine or a ban on the host FA.

Wish Anorthosis Famagusta the best of luck tonight. If they manage to get a goal then that will hopefully be enough to take them through to play Rangers.

just if you would understand what I said!! I was commenting what they did to the EU parliament member!!Of course they are not suppose to do things like that but it is human nature, you cannot hide your feelings so easily, especially when it comes to national stuff.I don't justify what they did, and I am sorry about the things happened in the airport mikkie2 but this is a solid example of what EU did to Turkish public... :( :(

Turkey ((*

Quite frankly, I cannot understand how the police are treating guests in their country as if they were criminals. They are not there to make political statements but to uphold the rule of law. It seems Turkey has a very long way to go before she can be considered European.

The EU is treating Turkey in the same way as any other candidate country. You only have to look at the example of Croatia to see what I mean. Negotiations with Croatia are currently suspended until such time Croatia meets her obligations to the EU. It will be the same for Turkey.

So basically until the Turkish mind set meets the European mindset, I and many others will not really understand where you are coming from!

You know what I meant there Petethegreek!!

Mikkie2, what statement are you talking about?? I didn't comment on that what I was commenting on was what police did to the EU parliament member that's all...For what you said about Croatia, it will be taken in in 10-20 years, but EU just makes reasons and hides behind those so it doesn't take Turkey in.(I am also waiting for Turkish members' comments on this, do you agree with me??) We did all that was required for talks but now it is Cyprus, and if we agree Cyprus then they will talk about the Army, they already gave signs on that!!You see they will never stop giving excuses!!

And believe me, it seems EU has a very long way to go before it can gain the confidence of the Turkish public and Army ever again!!

I think this game should have been played on neutral ground. I don't think turkish police is capable/willing to protect Anorthosis.

It's a shame when sport is being turned into politics. I really hope nothing goes "wrong" today.
