If you want 'Turkish' - go to Turkey - NOT Cyprus!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

If you want 'Turkish' - go to Turkey - NOT Cyprus!

Postby Oracle » Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:05 am

One of our biggest and most insidious dangers comes from the Brits who reside in Cyprus yet "cross over" and fraternise with the Turks. Some admit to working in both "zones" yet clearly prefer the Turks, but want the legitimacy of the RoC-EU. Also, those tourist Brits who fly to Cyprus expecting all EU benefits and "cross-over" for tacky Casinos and cheap Turkish jewellery to savour some eastern delights, yet scream at the RoC to supply all their safeguards.

It's time to curtail such expectations. We are a war-zone after all and these EU-traitors should respect our troubled shores ...

Then close the green line .................................as I said Jcc have the official figures without the cash figures for whores and betting.....the foreign tourists/ex pats are not allowed to bring goods back therefore how much are they helping the illegal regime , G/cs are spending the hard cash or visitors going there direct..........

It's only Brits I hear enjoying the illegal 'delights' of the north yet they are quick to "justify" their behaviour by making out that GCs form the bulk of this trade.

If the RoC deems it right for TCs to work and shop in the free areas -- fair enough. They have negotiations to fit in with. But, what the hell have the Brit tourists or Brit residents who "cross back and forth" have to benefit this process?

So far, all I see are free-loading exploiters of our island's difficult situation!

There is no "border" to be closed.

The north part of Cyprus is territory of Republic of Cyprus which is illegally occupied by Turkish troops. RoC could close access to this territory if it wanted. There are many good reasons to do so and many good reasons not to.

But I agree with apc here. We first have to deal with those Cypriot assholes that go to "casinos" and other illegal venues in the occupied part of Cyprus, and then deal with any foreigners. A foreigner might have the excuse that he doesn't have good knowledge of the situation in Cyprus. A Cypriot has no such excuse.

Personally I have not crossed to the occupied territory and I do not intent to do so until it is liberated liberated.

Well, for someone born after 74 and who has never been to the north that's some admission for one so certain about what goes on in the north. This does however go some way to explaining why you are so entirely ignorant of the north that you can only work in stereotype and cartoon-characters.

Well done, Piratis, this acknowledgment is the first positive step to recovery.

Not a constructive idea......

for many reasons......apart from the freedom of movement aspects as an E.U. member the tourist industry here already has enough problems and even the government admits it!There are many reasons, some due to internal factors and other due to external, but upsetting people by ramming politics down their throats is definitely not a good idea!Whether we like it or not, most people do not care about politics when they choose where to go on holiday, whether its Cyprus or Timbuktu!
I also get very incensed when G.C's who have never crossed to the north try to preach about what things are like over there, rather than seeing it for themselves and then voicing an opinion, whatever that may be!
I fully agree that G.C's who support casinos-and brothels in the north are despicable but maybe examining the reasons why they have the need to do so would be a more realistic way of tackling this situation? It reflects a society with serious shortcomings and ethical dilemmas and trying to blame it on the north is not going to solve the problem.

Oh, do we have to see for ourselves that there are thousands of Turkish troops stationed there? Do we have to be led out of the occupied areas personally, at gunpoint, before we believe they want to maintain ethnic cleansing against us who are Greek?

Thank you, Copperline, but there are enough eye-witnesses to the massacres, conducted specifically against Greeks by the Turks, to make us feel "unwelcome". And more recently, there have been enough beatings and shooting of unarmed civilians who dared to "cross over" for us to state this is the case without having to see for ourselves!

Living in the past.....

Postby cymart » Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:01 am

Much of what you say happened a whole generation ago, while since the border was opened in 2003,how many thousands of people have crossed in both directions, mostly without any problems? Why not use that as a positive sign to build a better future, rather than keep digging-up negative memories at every opportunity? You cannot change the past, only forgive its wrongs and try to move on....
