If you want 'Turkish' - go to Turkey - NOT Cyprus!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Gamblers who cross over to gamble there can spend any amount of money there.

But none of the people going there are breaking any laws. If the RoC wants to make it 'illegal' for GCs, Tourists or foreigners living in Cyprus to go there - then let them do so.

And anyone who thinks it is 'like Turkey' is nuts! If I want the 'Turkish Experience' I go to Turkey. It's more like RoC without so many Brits and tourists in high season. Oh and more litter in the streets. And you stil can't flush looroll down the bogs there!

Some people seem to have forgotten Cyprus is an EU member country now. And EU citizens have rights! Non EU citizens might find they have more trouble crossing over - but in practice it doesn't seem to happen. And Turkish people living in the North are not allowed to come South (not unless they are married to a TC - and there might be some other exceptions).

Remember the whole of Cyprus is in the EU and TCs are EU citizens too.

Well have witnessed exceptions, with a couple in front of us at the crossing about four years ago trying to go north. Part of a large party with loads of Cys.

They were Denied Entry.... their "crime" ? They were Greek Nationals, holders of (mainland) Greece Passports... EU Nationals denied free movement by the Illegal Regime.

I cant deny what you saw, as I was not there. But two years ago I saw two coach loads of young students speaking Greek. On further enquiry I found out they were high school students from Greece visiting the north. I thought it was a good step forward. (not enough though).

Can only report what witnessed.... perhaps things have changed.

I know. How long ago was your witnessed experience?

Aha!!!!! .............. See Above ^^^^^ .... and turn up the hearing aid!!!! 6341

You have conclusively demonstrated yourself to be, Piratis, a complete idiot.

This is what happened to many Cypriots who tried to enter their own homes in occupied Cyprus, or areas which are restricted by the Turkish army such as Famagusta. Yet others have been murdered for investigating the issue of our cultural destruction and tried to save what they could.

How many over the last 36 years ? As Get Real likes to say "credible evidence and credible links" ?

How many risked their life trying to learn something important? Greek Cypriots are allowed only as tourists in their own homeland!

But if you want links, I will give you a sample. Cypriots arrested even from doing the most innocent things, like taking photographs of their own homes or cutting flowers from their own garden. Try to do anything more important, like protect our cultural heritage from the invaders or learn what the Turkish army is illegally doing in our country, and your life is at risk.

We'd better tell people not to visit many parts of western Poland and western Ukraine because Stalins armies occupied it and redrew the boundaries in 1945?Or areas in other countries with similar histories?

Just because the RoC is unable (through some background blackmail by higher powers) to exercise its sovereign duty to prevent the erosion of its culture in the occupied areas; it does NOT mean normal, thinking human beings can join in the "revelries" of the occupation.

We need a voluntary show of morality.

Stay away from the occupied areas until the Turkish occupation has withdrawn!
You have only to pick up a holiday brocher in the uk for cyprus ,and half way through you will see a beach holiday in roc and a day triip to belapaise, nothing mentioning where belapaise is ,and these holiday ,and bus companies are gc ,,money is more important me thinks,,,,,and once you are on the bus there is a none stop barrage of abuse towards tc , dont eat in the restaurants ,dont drink the water the turks will poison you, dont use the toilets you will catch something , and when they arrive at the abbey , what a pleasant suprise ,no muslim fundamentalists, no colera,or salmanela, no derelict churches, no turkish troops in the street just happy turkish cyps eager to please ,and a wonderment why they were given all the garbage on the bus, keep it up, you are showing the world your true colours, good night,

I don't like the situation either but.....

Postby cymart » Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:11 pm

by refusing to go there we are playing into the hands of the people who want to keep the island divided, isolating ourselves from the T.C's and effectively writing off the north and accepting that it is lost for good!By going there we maintain our ties, show that we have not forgotten that we can all share Cyprus and live in it peacefully,to name just a few reasons...
It is also well-known that photographing anywhere considered a military zone in the north usually means trouble so this has to be borne in mind(not easy for me because Varosha comes into that category!)
Technically there are enough G.C's in the south to make us a majority there-think what would happen if even half of them simultaneously crossed over to the north(with good intentions of course!)and told the T.C's openly that we also want a solution NOW!

How about if they "chose" to arrive at any one of the other few hundreds of GC cultural sites?

What would they find there?

You are just reinforcing the "theme park image".

We are not fooled!
