If you want 'Turkish' - go to Turkey - NOT Cyprus!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Yes. If they don't want to abide by EU rules and regs.

EU has nothing to do with this.

please explain .....i was under the impression cyprus was an eu country , as are the brits referred to in the opening post by madame o

Piratis has already explained this -- but I shall elaborate as his simplicity has gone over your heads!

There are exceptions within the EU for areas which can be restricted by the sovereign/administrative state. The north is an illegally occupied zone (within the EU), heavily militarised by a foreign invader. This presents extenuating circumstances whereby the RoC could restrict movements to this war zone/foreign military base.

What do you think happens at the SBAs??????

It's upto the RoC to decide how it will handle the crossing rules. There are no EU regulations relevant to this.

that is what i suggested ,, no one can complain when the government does not do it ,,,, and to blame everyone else is crap.........

Gamblers who cross over to gamble there can spend any amount of money there.

But none of the people going there are breaking any laws. If the RoC wants to make it 'illegal' for GCs, Tourists or foreigners living in Cyprus to go there - then let them do so.

And anyone who thinks it is 'like Turkey' is nuts! If I want the 'Turkish Experience' I go to Turkey. It's more like RoC without so many Brits and tourists in high season. Oh and more litter in the streets. And you stil can't flush looroll down the bogs there!

Some people seem to have forgotten Cyprus is an EU member country now. And EU citizens have rights! Non EU citizens might find they have more trouble crossing over - but in practice it doesn't seem to happen. And Turkish people living in the North are not allowed to come South (not unless they are married to a TC - and there might be some other exceptions).

Remember the whole of Cyprus is in the EU and TCs are EU citizens too.

Well have witnessed exceptions, with a couple in front of us at the crossing about four years ago trying to go north. Part of a large party with loads of Cys.

They were Denied Entry.... their "crime" ? They were Greek Nationals, holders of (mainland) Greece Passports... EU Nationals denied free movement by the Illegal Regime.

I cant deny what you saw, as I was not there. But two years ago I saw two coach loads of young students speaking Greek. On further enquiry I found out they were high school students from Greece visiting the north. I thought it was a good step forward. (not enough though).

Can only report what witnessed.... perhaps things have changed.

Anyone with a half decent conscience would abstain from "visiting" the north. Otherwise, they are as bad as those carpetbaggers who claimed that they bought because others bought and no one stopped them and so they carried on unhindered and regardless, and certainly unfettered by morals and ethics.

Just because the RoC is unable (through some background blackmail by higher powers) to exercise its sovereign duty to prevent the erosion of its culture in the occupied areas; it does NOT mean normal, thinking human beings can join in the "revelries" of the occupation.

We need a voluntary show of morality.

Stay away from the occupied areas until the Turkish occupation has withdrawn!

You have conclusively demonstrated yourself to be, Piratis, a complete idiot.

This is what happened to many Cypriots who tried to enter their own homes in occupied Cyprus, or areas which are restricted by the Turkish army such as Famagusta. Yet others have been murdered for investigating the issue of our cultural destruction and tried to save what they could.

How many over the last 36 years ? As Get Real likes to say "credible evidence and credible links" ?

How many risked their life trying to learn something important? Greek Cypriots are allowed only as tourists in their own homeland!

But if you want links, I will give you a sample. Cypriots arrested even from doing the most innocent things, like taking photographs of their own homes or cutting flowers from their own garden. Try to do anything more important, like protect our cultural heritage from the invaders or learn what the Turkish army is illegally doing in our country, and your life is at risk.
