Dictator Ioannides speaks about 1974

Postby Nikitas » Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:49 pm

Finally the dictator who started it all spoke. Ioannides gave his first ever interview to journalist Frangos. The information is, for me anyway, very interesting.

On July 20, after the invasion started, Ioannides met at the Greek armed forces HQ with the following people, the list is fascinating:

President of Greece, Gizikis
Prime Minister Andritsopoulos
Foreign Minister Kypraios
Defence Minister Latsoudis
Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Airforce
US UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE SISCO
US AMBASSADOR HENRY TASKA

"Sisco told us to show self restraint. He ssured us that he (Sisco) and Kissinger would convince the Turks to leave the island in the next few days, leaving behind a force of 1500 men to reinforce the Turkish Cyprus Contingent and to boost the morale of the TCs. For the above reasons he asked us to avoid any military operations" says Ioannides.

It is amazing that a time of a historic national crisis the Greek dictator and his chief advisers and collaborators would be holding a JOINT council with American officials.

What is even more astounding is that while the Greeks, through their coupist oficers who were by now in full control of the island, did not have direct intelligence about the situation developing on the ground. A simple count of the landed troops and the scale of the invasion would have been enough to make them understand that the Americans were selling them a crock.

Fascinating stuff and interesting insights into the workings of the military mind. What happened to the old adage that you engage the enemy wherever he appears and all that crap.

And, can we take for granted everything the corrupt dictator says?

It was in the Athens paper Adesmeftos Typos and reprinted by Politis.

Do you get the magazines that come with Politis, Nikitas? I suggest you get hold of XRONIKO, it has extensive reports on the first three plans proposed by the Brits for solution, just after the second world war. There is no political analysis, but mere recordings of aspects of the plans, but still very interesting.

Bananiot,

I access Politis on line. I will try and locate Xronika to see the plans. Unfortunately the Cypriot press is found in Athens in very few kiosks.

The 2010 opinion of a corrupt fool who now suffers from dementia after decades of imprisonment and at the ripe old age of 90 odd, is not worth the hard disk space here! Should’ve spoken up when he could not now.

He is not suffering from dementia, all who met him attest to his clarity and presence of mind.

He is the last of the dicators and refused release because he is not willing to sign a statement of regret.

His testimony as to the events of 1974 is important.

In the specific incident we have a joint meeting of the top military and diplomatic officials of a nation meeting in a joint session with Americans. It is an incredible event. Something that did not happen even in wartime Britain. The event speaks volumes about the meaning of "national interest" for these clowns.

I think we are all clear on the overall picture. It's the details that are missing; and if he can supply them before it's too late, then some people might be forced to let go of some of their prejudices which prevent us making the right decisions for the future!

Do you people honestly expect this corrupt and selfish criminal to paint a picture other than one that softens the blow of his involvement?

How naïve can you people possibly get? :?
