Would you marry a Non-Cypriot?

Postby Omer Seyhan » Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:21 pm

As I mentioned before, my wife is Irish but we are not very happy lately. One of the reasons is that our cultures are very different. Now, I'm getting on a bit and have a desire to return to my Cypriot roots. Has anybody had similar inter-cultural relationship problems? Are Cypriots just incompatible with those from Western / Northern Europe? Are we better suited to Mediterranean people? Would you marry a Non-Cypriot?

Omer, do you mean born and bred local Cypriots or Cypriots of the diaspora?
Although both share the same cultural backround, mentality is a different story.
My wife to be is a kochinokolo Brit! lol, but I love her and that's all that matters. I was born abroad as you may well have figured out.

KInd of late to deal with this question. I did marry a non Cypriot, non Greek, a long time ago. No I do not think cultural problems arise with non Mediterranean people. It has to do with the person not the culture.

Maybe one of the other reasons is more significant!

my gf is cypriot also as well as me, and every time a family member marries outside they always separate and i think the language barrier and the religion, what will your children learn well will you stay.. so many factors that make a couple fight in the end.. well its been this way for every member of my fathers family his sisters and brothers who marry english or other... i would not like to make the same mistake .. though i love my gf and one day will ask her to marry me. but who knows what could happen in the time before i ask and who knows if she will say yes ;p

Marrying someone from a different country/culture is adding an additional couple of dozen reasons for the marriage to go wrong!

I suppose love has nothing to do with this subject. Everybody is turning cynical and subsequently very selfish.

My No 1 was Cypriot. We divorced just because she was Cypriot.

I am very happy with my English wife from Devon.

Love obviously has something to do with it, but liking the other person is important too. I know plenty of people who are in love but do not like each other very much. Odd as it sounds, it is not a contradiction in terms.
