UN 'insulted' Iran, Poult and Brazil

Postby Cap » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:19 pm

Geneva - The UN Security Council and the United States "insulted" Iran, Turkey and Brazil, by imposing fresh sanctions despite a nuclear deal between the three parties, Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday.

Larijani said that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had received letters from US President Barack Obama requesting help so "we can embark on a new path" on the nuclear dossier.

But when Turkey, Brazil and Iran announced a nuclear fuel swap deal in May, Washington expressed reservations.

Under the accord signed May 17, Tehran would ship around half its stock of low-enriched uranium to Turkey and months later receive a supply of more highly enriched uranium suitable for research and medical use.

The United States also led the push at the UN Security Council for fresh sanctions against Tehran.

"After what the Security Council and the US did is like an insult to these three countries -- Iran, Turkey and Brazil," said Larijani.

"They gave a mission to (Turkey and Brazil) and... we had a deal and after that they betrayed them," added Iran's former chief nuclear negotiator.

Asked for his assessment of Iran and Russia's relationship after Moscow backed the UN sanctions, Larijani said: "The relationship we have with Russia is normal".

But he stressed that he was opposed to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's statement last week calling for Tehran to provide explanations over its nuclear ambitions and to co-operate with the international community.

"I am opposed to what President Medvedev has said. With Mr Putin we have defined a very active diplomacy and relationship," he said, referring to the former Russian president who is now prime minister.

"We don't want to live in a kind of political fantasy world.

"The reality is that the Russians know very well that we don't have nuclear weapons and the Americans know it too. Therefore it is not really justified when they expressed any concerns about something that they know very well about," claimed Larijani.

Some Cypriots support the right of Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Nothing in wrong in that they say. If Israel has them why not Iran !
This is a nation that has passed a law determining the ....length of hair and ...beards , and we are suppose to trust this medieval nation , where stoning people to death is a cultural religious ...sport !!
( Here come the defenders to tell us about American bombings , stupid clowns )

(CNN) -- The Islamic regime, which strictly enforces head coverings for women, issued grooming guidelines for the guys this week.

Among the do's that are now don'ts? The '80's Prince-style pompadour preferred by many young Iranian men, the Steven Seagal-style ponytail and the "business in the front, party in the back" sentiment of the mullet -- also popular among the Persian populace.

The "Islamic" haircuts that have received the government's blessing were unveiled at the Hijab and Chastity Festival, a fashion event designed to show how the country's youth can be stylish yet not run afoul of the fashion police.

"Hair styles have been designed based on the shape of the neck, beard, the size of the chin and provincial cultures," said Jaleh Khodayar, the secretary of the festival. Her comments were reported by the semiofficial Mehr news agency.

"In designing these hair styles, we have not tried to go backward. On the contrary, we have tried to make our designs a mixture of our traditions and Iranian culture, as well as the latest fashions and by doing so confront the cultural assault by the West (on our country)."

The approved styles have a distinctly 1950s look to them: short on the front and sides for the most part, but the gel-slathered, combed-back 1980s look also made the cut.

"I don't think these young men will stop wearing these hairstyles, even though in my opinion they are actually pretty strange," 32-year-old Majid says. He prefers his own hair on the short side.

To the outside world, the crackdown on cuts may represent further restrictions by an already restrictive regime. But in one way, they represent a loosening of guidelines: None of the photographs of acceptable grooming styles feature models with full-grown beards -- a look, a la President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that Iran had encouraged for years.
