I could kill a chicken to feed my family and myself, if we were desperate. But, I actually don't like the taste. Happiest eating carbohydrates!

Do you eat fish/seafood?

Well, when faced with the option of an intravenous Iron injection or eat some salmon, then, I can swallow! :D

NO! Unlike Orifice, I only have one forum ID. I am well aware she is a liar. Don't have to have it confirmed by what she says about her dietary habits!

She did once respond to something I'd said by announcing that she was vegetarian. Another 'whopper'!

*or was it a Big Mac?

Gasbag/"ucokka" ... My gut doesn't absorb Iron too well. It takes months and months on 200mg/day to shift my levels up even a tiny insignificant bit -- with undesirable side effects.

But, you might delight in the fact that I have chosen to remain anaemic rather than put in the extra effort required to eat mammals!

And, you can rest easy; I'm also not interested in consuming reptiles.

But, let's see what is consuming you that you convey such a guilt complex .... (Notice, I have not given a damn about what you do/don't eat  ) Let's see if I can clear up your misunderstanding from intercepting an exchange I had recently with Paphitis where I was actually conveying that I would have said I was vegetarian, BUT for the fact, at that time, I was having to eat chicken.

As a grown woman with enough money to feed myself whatever I desire, I find I gravitate towards bread, rice, loukoumia. When asked if I have any dietary requirements by hosts in advance of a dinner party (much to hubby's annoyance) I reply, "so long as there's a piece of bread, I'm fine". I never say I am vegetarian. Even booking a flight, it is hubby who books me a "veggie" option. Because, I actually couldn't care less what I am offered. I eat what I like and if I don't like it I don't eat -- Funnily enough, here in the West, I never starve!

So, to cut a long story short; I know there are people who make martyrs of themselves by "giving up meat" -- perhaps you are one ( ) -- but I don't have to. I simply prefer carbohydrates (but, yes I am glad, coincidentally, less animals suffer for the sake of my "nutrition").

Now, I must do penance for having broken my "Cardinal Rule" of not writing at length about my personal habits [they really seem to get the likes of you rather excited] ...

Oracle,

Do animals not suffer when they are displaced from the cultivations that yield the rice and wheat that you like? Scarecrows, noise guns, bird strips, pesticides, insecticides and a host of other methods are used to keep down the competition. The latest one I heard was deer contraception in the USA.

When I was studying biology the theories of competition, symbiosis and so on proved that it is impossible to exist without competing for food, one way or another.

As for the suffering of mammals, and the presumed non suffering of plants, Professor Karageorgis from Thessaloniki University, has shown that plants also develope defences when overused by mammals. On the island of Dia the plants have increased in toxicity and survive the overgrazing from goats. This study and others tend to show that plants are not as dumb as some would like to believe.

There are no innocents on this earth.

What you say is very interesting, Nikitas. Of course plants have been developing as plants for far longer than we have been developing as animals. Our genetic similarities to plants would have Christians deferring to, finally, accepting us as Chimps rather than Cabbages! :D

But, it's all relative ...
