Can someone please explain...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Very unfortunate times, but remember Edek was against the signing of the population transfer agreement of 1975 as it would create bi-zonality.

It smacks of the villages destroyed and harassed TC population of the 60s, the threatenings, murders, the enclaved etc....

But as with the abuses by GCs on TCs, it was not one whole threatening affair as is depicted by a number of these posts. Most people were not abused, they had the opportunity to stay if they so chose, in their villages and in their homes. If they had done they would have had a greater say in North Cyprus politics, but as with TCs a decade earlier, their fears were greater than their belief in their countrymen.

But you have to admit that when people in the Larnaca district heard of the events in Alamiyo and Dohni/Tokhni, they would not wait to see if the same thing happened to them. 'Intimidation' is a strong weapon and life is sweet. The same in 1974 with the GCs.

As for the TCs, I would say they had some get-rich-quick "incentives".

No need to deny ... proceed with GR!'s request.

Deniz, I agree, fear is a powerful weapon and I am not judging the response of GCs nor their leaders (nor should they of our fears and those of our leaders). I thought it important however to add some colour before everyone gets carried away and forgets what was going on at the time. Remember there were TCs stuck in the south too, in fear.
