EROGLU COMMENTS ON CANCELLATION OF A CONCERT BY LOPEZ

Postby halil » Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:28 pm

TRNC President Derviş Eroğlu has described the Greek Cypriot lobby’s efforts, which prevented American Singer Jennifer Lopez from performing in the TRNC, as the Greek Cypriot Side’s intolerance towards the Turkish Cypriots.

The cancellation of a scheduled performance by Lopez at the opening of a hotel in the TRNC caused strong reaction from the Turkish Cypriot People.

The President said that such an action, at a time when talks aimed at reaching a settlement in Cyprus were continuing, was wrong.

Commenting to the Bayrak Radio and Television on the issue, the TRNC President pointed out that Jennifer Lopez was an artist and that in the end she was free to go where ever she wanted.

Explaining that the singer had signed a contract for the gig at the inauguration of a hotel, President Eroglu said that the Greek Cypriot Side’s intolerance, even towards a singer performing in the TRNC, was totally unacceptable.

He warned that such moves only served to deepen the distrust between the two peoples on the island.

He said that the Greek Cypriot people needed to be more understanding and tolerant towards the Turkish Cypriots.

He noted that the Greek Cypriot Side’s preventative efforts raised the concern amongst the Turkish Cypriots as to what the Greek Cypriots could be capable of doing in the event of a solution.

Something that no one seems to have pointed out here is that this was not a RoC Government campaign, but something organised by individuals. I may be wrong, but I don't recall seeing any RoC Government statement on the situation.

Ah there that trust issue again - do GCs trust TCs and do TCs trust GCs at the moment it woudl appear not so I guess the talks are doomed to fail.

Again we have the most hypocritical turks again. Ahh, the insensitivity of it, damn cheek, it was bloody insensitive to be opening a god damn hotel built on GC land in the first place. Not to mention the chosen date to do it.

Just who the hell is the insensitive one here now??

How dare you even complain and say this could affect the talks, what you were planning had an even more negative affect. You keep going on about the trust building, I makes me laugh every time. You constantly rub our faces in the criminal activities and you expect us to be sensitive and trust you???

Well you all know what you can do. In Deniz blankety blank message ****.***.

B25 it is on Cypriot land not GC land. We are Cypriots too, though not in your mind.

Rubbish, it was land previously owned, before he was evicted at gunpoint, land.

I say again, how dare you try to belittle the plight of the 200,000 GCs you evicted and continue to usurp their lands for your theiving benefits.

I don't need to say anymore, it is all there in black and white for all to see.

A pseudo state, populated by anatolian gypseys run by corrupt politicians and you think you have something to write home about. Poor soul, I pity you.

You tried a plan and it failed, egg is on your face.

What someone had said to me earlier, this Jlo thing, just goes to show, if we all do our little bit things can change, sure did. And we will all keep doing our little bit until we rid ourselves of the turk.

what Eroglu has not realised is that whilst he has Turkey on our Island and is preventing us from gaining access to our homes we are at opposing points of the spectrum and in essence we are still enemies and that we will do everything to protect the integrity of the RoC as they have the right to protect the integrity of their so called "trnc". When Eroglu allows ever GC to return to their homes and properties and when he allows every Cypriot to move freely within Cyprus he will find that GC's will be supportive of anything the TC community organises. And coz we are richer we will probably support their cultural events.

Acikgoz: Good to hear you identify as Cypriot ... watch out you don't get bombarded by some of the TC's on the forum who are adamant that you guys are Turks first and foremost. The minute you realise you are Cypriot then you will have solution to the Cypro because there will be no division based on ethnic lines
