So who else is part of the 0.1% ??

Quote from comments section of Cyprus Mail JLo article -

"The Cyprus forum has a 99.9 percent Greek subscription base, with a significant group espousing racist views!

Look at some of the other forums - for a better balanced discussion.

Well done JLO isn't coming to the North.

But remember, without mutual consent there is no solution! I was pro- reconciliation, but now I think too much hatred is around, its time to be honest and formalise the division.

In there hearts everyone knows unification isn't happening!"

Am I the 0.1% ?? and as such do I get protected minority status, a free house and umpteen benefits- Oh I forgot...... Not in England anymore

I would suggest that Dibi doesn't know what he/she/it is talking about. This is not Cyprus44 where GC's don't last for 5 minutes, even if they do manage to join. I would have said that CF has a much wider ethnic member base than any other Cyprus based forum.

The Cyprus Mail is a rag prostitutes clean their C$%s with in a brothel. It should be called the Anti-Cyprus Mail.

I could go and randomly post the following quote on the comment section of the Cyprus Mail JLo article:

"bsharpish isn't sharp at all. In fact he's 99.9 percent stupid."

Would you believe it? (I know I would).

Doesn't have many active members to start with. Some of the polls are good pointers to the number of active members (and bearing in mind that some of the regs have more than one ID!)

Just looked and users browsing Cyprob - NONE. Users browsing General Chat - NONE. And that is often the case.

The Cyprus Mail has editors who are permanently asleep and journalists who pander to the usual affliction of locals bashing, a common phenomenon in media catering to expat communities.

Look at any English language paper catering to expat Brits anywhere in the world and the tone is the same, gripe gripe gripe, interspersed with plenty of bad news that make the place look awful. And the crossword puzzles suck too.

Apart from the fact that the crossword puzzle sucks, I have to disagree with you. The paper is owned by a Cypriot and many of the reporters are Cypriot. The Cyprus Mail does print a lot of articles that cater for the taste of the ex-pat community, but they also are not afraid to criticise the "powers that be". Most times their criticism is very valid, and is not just directed to the Government, but also the opposition. Most Greek language papers in Cyprus are very one-sided in their views, especially as they nearly all "belong" in one way or another to a particular political view.

The original post in this thread credited the comment about the CF's make up to one of the comments posted by some anonymous reader, not something you can blame the CM for.

For a balanced picture of Cyprus which paper are you going to read, Haravghi, Simerini, Ta Nea, or Phileleftheros?

CBBB,

Having some experience of the phenomenon let me put it another way. You can publish a Cypriot newspaper in English or an English paper in Cyprus. Which way do you think the CM leans?

Nikitas.

If you avoid the British news and the whinging about title deeds (I do both), then I would say it is a Cypriot newspaper in English. If it was just a translation of Phileleftheros (which I do read on occasion, albeit very slowly), I would soon get pissed off with it. The Phileleftheros crossword is also crappier than the CM.
