When you consider how many people Derrick Bird murdered in Cumbria in just a few hours then the answer has to be yes.

From what I understand about the case of Derrick Bird, there were several ongoing feuds with those people who suffered from his actions, his motives would appear to be connected with either revenge or as an act of punishment to those who had offended him.

He was also in fear (apparently) of being pursued (perhaps imprisoned) by the authorities on account of some financial matters which could result in the loss of his home and further hardships.

He also had some problems with his girlfriend ("Cherchez la femme", the ever present curse upon a desperate man) who is said to have jilted him.

He was also known to the police but not recognised as a threat which is fair enough since there was no reason for them to suppose him so.

He had informed his friends that he was going to do something desperate months before the actual incidents so........... WHAT triggered him ?.

My guess is, fear of the authorities coupled with the trauma of being jilted by his girlfriend and compounded by the trickery of those close to him.

NOT that it excuses his actions BUT, it must be very difficult for a man who fears prosecution, to read in the local papers that his political representatives are allowed to syphon off untold thousands of pounds in a perfectly cavalier fashion WITHOUT fear of prosecution, whilst HE, probably in hock for a few bob faces incarceration (if caught).

As to the jilting and trickery, I would place them second on the list for a simple reason, one may approach and discuss differences of opinion and come to understandings with those who offend you, unfortunately, when dealing with the rank and file of those who have attained 'Authority', the ONLY way to gain satisfaction is to shoot the bastards (but you just can't get at them.

I think they must know something we don't !!.

The only alcohol that has passed my lips in the last few days, was contained in the delicious meal of 'Hossenfeffer' which I consumed on Monday evening.

Not at all apc2010, merely examining the facts which seem to always escape the notice of those who follow such stories as these.

I think the reasons which prompt such drastic actions should be considered more and perhaps made study of, in such ways, it may be possible to avoid such incidents in the future (or lessen them) by encouraging people to take note of the welfare of their neighbours (or friends) and show a little more consideration should they find them in trouble.

The UK has announced that it faces a period of 'Severe Austerity', (but only for the chosen Masses  ) one wonders how long it will be before another such horrendous incident takes place as that which we have just been informed of, will the helicopters and tanks be rolling in pursuit of someone who flips his lid because he cannot pay his rent ?, will battalions of black suited 'Swat Teams' be hounding the old age pensioners because they cannot pay the gas bill ?, laugh if you may BUT, things are beginning to look a bit hairy in the streets of London (and elsewhere).

I certainly hope you do not consider me to be living in the UK apc2010 ?, I merely pass through from time to time (observing the behaviour of the residents as it were, much the same as one visits the Zoological Gardens), I also visit Cyprus quite often and met a very interesting chap there recently, he is a blind musician and he manages to make his living entertaining in the hotels and bars around Larnaka.

He MUST have a very hard life, I think his name is Gary and he plays (and teaches) guitar, whether or not he feels like shooting anyone (due to his misfortunes) I do not know but guess it is just as well that he does not since, being blind, it would present him with certain difficulties.

As to social workers.......... I consider them a waste of space AND time.

I know a great deal about mind altering drugs, I have seen countless cases of affected American G.I's being shipped home on account of them (they were the lucky ones) and many more who just didn't make it.
