Many more buildings coming up in the pipeline for the next 3-4 years mostly in Nicosia with an emphasis on height and self-sustainability. I'll keep this thread going with more projects from time to time.

Who is going to inhabit all of these new developments and at what cost?

As you improve the infrastructure and the regulations in this country you will start to attract EU businesses with their staff. One example is a well known European investment bank that is moving its entire backoffice to Cyprus with a workforce of 250 people.

As long as AKEL are blocked by the other parties from screwing with the corporate tax rate this will continue.

Its all so clean, what have they done with bananiots. Replaced them with Swedes? DT, do you also think that just a 1% increase in the corporation tax will be as detrimental as the opposition and business community tell us? Isn't this gross exaggeration.

The building look dated and samey. The marina in Lim looks better than it is now, my boat was there and it was very boring with nothing really to look at, loved it better in Latsi marina :)
nothing is selling in cyprus, is more homes for sale going to give it a boost then?!

Improving the infrastructure would help a lot in attracting companies to move here, but as you know unless you are a Qatari doing a deal with the government, things take bloody ages!

It took us three months to set up a local company with meson from a minister and your party!

Dont'cha just love those ARTIST IMPRESSIONS? There are still some up on the sale boards outside apartment blocks here. Showing palm trees and very respectable people walking down the road while others 'frolic' in the pools!

The REALITY is very different.

A photo I took last week of some holidaymakers who had only seen the 'side' of the building that the brochure showed!

Image

In case you cannot see very well what is right behind that block - here it is:

If they are lucky enough to be in an apartment facing the other way (towards the sea) this is what is on the other side of the road (yes another scrapyard! A tidier one but the guy works 7 days a week in it sawing up metal).

Image

Turn right for Makenzy and tour the building sites.

Turn left for the old Turkish town and view the decay.

Thats not the issue here Bananiot. Its the impression you give of an unstable tax regime. Right now there are billions deposited in Cypriot Banks from mostly Scandinavian holdings in order to benefit from the corporate and dividend tax rates. Once you show that these are liable to change after one of those Bash Economist meetings of the AKEL central committee the you have lost the game.

There are other countries that are also in the EU that are competing for these bussineses.

I was recently doing a road show promoting a specific sector of the finance industry to a specific region in order to convince them to use Cyprus as a base along with the ministry of finance. The moment I got back the discussion of the 1% tax hike kicked into gear and we stopped getting our calls returned.

I'll reverse the question, if the change is so miniscule and the increased taxtaion will only bring another 75 million to the govt then why do it and upset a major part of this economy?
