WHats your aim here by posting a couple of slums in Cyprus? That there are slums in Cyprus? We know. That all countries have slums? We also know that.

This thread is about the new developments both private and public. DO you have anything to contribute to this? If you do not then go back to your thread and keep trying to convince the world that the 3 sq metres of Cyprus you cover each day in a slum in Larnaca because you can't afford to live any better is the correct representation of Cyprus.

Otherwise I advise you to visit Cyprus and see where the Cypriots live and work. Its not all good, but there is a lot of potential and a lot of intiative. Nicosia is slowly turning into a modern city where people where people's lives are based on meeting in person in public places rather than on facebook like some countries.

A stroll down Spyrou Kyprianou with the new developments there and the new centre being planned has to be appreciated as what it is. A new city being born that combines work and entertainment wherever you look.

Don't forget, this country went through a war in 74 that tore it in 2. 1/3 of the population was forced out of their homes and they ALL had to START AGAIN from NOTHING. Thsi is not an excuse but I credit my countrymen for what they have achieved here. The country moved on, maybe not in the best way possible but with a lot of hard work.

There must be something good here if it dragged your sorry arse over.

And again you and your bank manager are wrong. The majority of funds coming into Cyprus at this moment are Scandinavian (mostly Swedish).

Not me wrong. Just my bank manager. I don't have a clue WHOSE money is floating Cyprus.

Slums? Slums!! lol!

These are NEW apartment complexes! The one in the top pic hadn't even been finished building when I moved here less than 3 yrs ago. There are others on the right out of shot that are still not finished (they are closer to the crap).

I am showing what is right next to them, in front of them, behind them. If you could zoom in on the artist impression developer board in one of them, you will see none of that. Just palm trees etc. You posted artist impression pictures. I am showing the reality - re the difference between an artist impression of a development in Cyprus and what it REALLY looks like.

Slums indeed!

Now if you want to see pictures of SLUMS - I have plenty. I live on the edge of the old Turkish Town. As I have posted today, there is frenzied activity tarting a lot of it up in recent months. But most of it is very sadly neglected, overgrown and littered all over with rubbish (not just the empty properties, there aren't many of those. They are mostly inhabited).

The trams would be great.

Are the bus drivers in agreement with the new plans for trams?

They were not happy about the upgraded, cut-price, islandwide bus system due to start operating today.

They threatened to 'take to the streets' with their buses in protest about it today! (Must say that made me smile!)

Mayor dusts off trams plan
http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/mayor-dusts-trams-plan
NICOSIA mayor Michalakis Zampelas said yesterday he wanted to introduce trams to the greater Nicosia area within a decade.

Zampelas said his municipality and the Communications Ministry had already prepared studies on what kind of trams would be suitable for use in Cyprus. If the plans go ahead, the modern, speedy and environmentally-friendly transportation could be in Cyprus in just 10 years time, he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate issue, Zampelas said the Themistoclis Dervis and Ayios Pavlos roadwork projects would cost a total £4.4million. He said the former would cost £1.4 million and could be finished within 12 months, while the latter would cost £3 million and involve creating two-lane traffic for the entire length of the road.

Now that was six years ago. He says it
could be in Cyprus in just 10 years time

So does this mean six years of those 10 have already passed and it will take only four years now if they are going ahead?

Whereas this was more than TEN YEARS ago.

Trams to solve Nicosia traffic congestion?
http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/trams-solve-nicosia-traffic-congestion

TRAMS could be the solution to Nicosia’s traffic problems, Nicosia Mayor Lellos Demetriades told the Cyprus Mail yesterday.

"The idea of a tram system could be examined, as part of the efforts to decrease traffic congestion, to step up traffic security and cut down on accidents," the mayor said.

"Soon there will be no room for cars to move, or to park, not to mention that parking fees are getting higher and higher. We cannot make roads wider. Strange as it sounds, Cypriots will have to get used to the idea of walking, or using public transport, like the bus. That’s where my idea for a tram system came from," said Demetriades, who was inspired by the tram system in the French city of Strasbourg, which he said was quiet and very effective.

"The Minister of Communications liked my idea, and I think we should now have an expert look into it and tell us whether it is worth considering. After that, if we still want to go ahead and set up a tram system, we should have a specialised company make plans and move on with the construction. It need not take more than a couple of months," said the mayor. EU funds could be used to accomplish this, he added.

Two lines on the tram could be enough, said Demetriades, one of which might start from Kaimakli and end up in Lakatamia.

So what's the timeframe now for it?

And they have widened some of the roads since then.

My sorry arse has been dragged to a lot of different countries. Just because I choose to live somewhere doesn't mean I don't have ANY opinions about what could do with improvement.

The Cypriots on here who CHOSE to live in the UK never stop berating the UK.

At least I haven't chosen to live in a country that I BLAME FOR ALL THE ILLS OF THE COUNTRY I WAS BORN IN and blame for having forced me to leave my 'own country'.

But then I don't blame any other country for anything I find to criticise about the UK.

You seem to have to find someone else to blame for EVERYTHING.
