 I’m just shocked you people keep coming back…

The driving is bad, the place is too expensive, the locals are rude, the architecture is bad, the cucumbers are crooked, etc…

Maybe it’s time you visited a psychologist to explain your love affair with badness!

This is how it looks now and how I really hoped it would stay.

I walk along here every day and most evenings and it's where my favourite watering hole is too.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT LIKE THAT?

Yeah I reckon I might just! Not quite clear what sort of pics you are talking about tho. EXPLAIN YERSELF MAN!

I have taken a few piccies this morning.

I am INTRIGUED.

There is almost a FRENZY of building and restoration activity going on in the old Turkish quarter here. I find this a bit puzzling as nothing at all much done for all these years and now it's starting up all over? And the talk is they are going to widen the road along the old waterfront in front of all the old TC houses between Finicoudes and Makenzy?

A part of Cyprus I hoped would never change in my lifetime. Great - another tacky effing 'esplanade' with all that goes with it? Some of the old GCs living there in the houses are moaning like hell about the fact that they won't be able to park their BMWs and Mercs 'right outside' their front doors any more!

Let's hope it takes them as long as it usually takes to do anything here - I might be dead and gone before it happens.

Will upload the pics I took today after I've been for (another) swim!

An 'esplanade'? So, for the benefit of the public (read tourists) the whole lot of TC homes are destined to vanish. Bloody (Ooops) marvellous innit.

State of the art accessway into the sea!

Image

Make way for fancy red block paving, green and gold bollards and NO STOPPING and CLEARWAY signs everywhere that everyone will ignore anyway. Just as they do along Finicoudes.

Well Deniz, I did ask if the houses were going to be demolished. I was told 'NO - the road is to be widened. But, as you can see (from the photos above) that would actually mean widening it out over the sea! There is no 'beach' along this stretch, not until you almost hit the Fort at one end and Makenzy beach at the other.

But if the guy complaining about not being able to park right outside 'his' front door has seen plans - I guess the houses will be staying? They are not brilliant at telling you what they are doing when they start work around here.

I can just see an 'esplanade' on stilts. I suppose they can fill the place in and leave the properties untouched; but they will need to be 'brought-up-to-standard'.

The driving is bad

Ah but you cannot blame them for that. I discovered yesterday that they have no Highway Code, nor driving rules. They just have a list of driving LAWS showing how much the fine is (they are all paltry amounts) for breaching any of them!

Mind you, even with them being paltry, if they were to enforce the one about using a mobile phone whilst driving - they'd be COINING IT IN!

I don't understand why Cypriots joke about their terrible reputation as drivers. The road death toll is appalling, one of the worst (apart from Greece I think) but what it amounts to is a TRAGIC WASTE OF LIVES. And mostly YOUNG lives. What's to be proud about that or brush it off with 'oh well you are in Cyprus now!'.
