I remember in 1973 going to Cyprus for a month. Having been in the UK for years I did not have any "affiliation" so was welcomed by friends who belonged to both camps. It was shocking to hear them speak as if the interGC division was the only thing that counted. When asked about Turkey's reaction to a coup their response was a monotonous "the Turks have been spoken to". None of them remotely thought that the Turks might have simply been waiting for an opportunity or that they had their own plans.

Cypriots in some ways are accurate reflections of the Greek proverb: "no one is more deaf than the person who does not want to hear".

Possibly, one of THE most well known political tactics (particularly practiced by the Western powers) is that of 'Divide and Rule'.

Evidence of the effectiveness of such policies is visible the world over and has cost countless innocent lives, YET, still we have situations where lay persons rely on the quotes of proven liars when discussing (or, more accurately, arguing in the disguise of debate) matters which are of the gravest concern to themselves.

About time we started thinking for ourselves I reckon, the outcome might send signals to those in control that we are not quite as stupid as they would have us believe.

If you are on a quest to find the truth, there is little point in approaching an attainted liar in an effort to do so.

IMHO.

Sounds like FLODA IMHO. ... and that so-called "divide and rule" policy has many times proven itself that it should actually been called "divide(if they really did) and lost the ability to rule; create a threat for your existence, spend billions for defense and armament just for nothing"

Really nothing? Yet, It's a dream... most probably won't come true...

Never heard of the geezer !  However, the significance of what I was attempting to illustrate seems to have either escaped your notice or been placed on the back-burner since it may conflict with your appraisal of current political debate (in higher places).

As lay persons, we should not place so much dependence upon the very same sources which created the problems we now entrust them to resolve.

It is common knowledge that political machinations were (and are) responsible for the condition Cyprus is now in.

More worrying is the spectre of the G/C and T/C leaders actively engaged in some kind of 'Pas de Deux', whilst those leaders of the foreign powers which created (and bolster) the situation, array themselves in the guise of an interested audience, paying lip service and offering guidance to each step in yet another 'Dance of Deception', fully aware that the outcome of any negotiations will be that which THEY have already decided the outcome will be.

As lay persons, we should know this (we DO know this) but for some reason it would appear that the LIE is more acceptable than the TRUTH in many cases.

IMHO (shhhh  )
