Russia many times has also been in a very similar dilemma, and in almost all times, the difficult answer in her case was, “with Cyprus!”
Recently, Cyprus has also found itself in an “either or” difficult dilemma. “With Russia, or with the US?” No third option was possible.
What should have been the reply?
We're back to the desirable and the feasible again. As much as we wished to be part of Greece one time, it became obvious it was never really up to us. Do we really have the choice again, with whom to follow? Or, do they decide for us? We're tied to the USA, by proxy, from Greece's NATO membership. So, we are not as free as we would like in order to wholeheartedly woo Russia.
If Greece abandoned NATO, then a combined Greece-Cyprus alliance will synergistically be a more valuable package for Russia. Would Greece do that for us?
