To suggest that it is in a different class from budget airlines is rather flimsy in my opinion as a regular flyer. I dont fly because I enjoy the thrill of being up in the air for 4 plus hours , only do so to get to the other side !!

Miltiades,

you need to face facts mate.

EasyJet is a different type of operation to CA!

And yes, pilots are on a different pay scale at CA. Pilots at CA would earn between 160,000 to 250,000 euros per annum. A Captain at EasyJet would be on half that. A QANTAS B737 Captain pulls about 300,000+.

Pilot retention is a major problem for budget airlines!

Give it up mate ! Stelios had the right idea when he introduced Easyjet, no frills , plenty legroom , mostly on time aircraft and bloody good value for money . Just check CA for the 20th August to 29th , Morning flight and afternoon return. CA 474.00 Easyjet 340.00 #134.00 difference , now thats a lot of money for me for a couple of reds and a meal !!!
What you have to understand is that both airlines offer flights to Cyprus , both have identical leg room give or take an inch or so. CA offer freebies and a monitor , CA flight out of Heathrow which is a pain in the backside for me since Gatwick its only 20 minutes away from me.
As you can see I would have to be an absolute plonker to throw money away just for a bloody monitor !!
Back to Cyprus now , went for a meal last evening at a terrific location , Ais Giorgis , lovely restaurant quite large by the sea, excellent fish meze and first class Retsina , would definitely visit again.
Lunch was at Dasoudi where the children enjoyed the games .
Off to Kourion today and my very favourite beach restaurant , Cris's Blue Beach , middle restaurant. I have never had a bad meal or bad service at this wonderful restaurant, my thanks to Savvas for looking after both my son last month and my brother last week. My son rung me when he was in Cyprus and told me that he was at the Blue Beach , I telephoned Savvas and told him to take care of them , son and wife , and to allow me to pay using my debit card . Pros theou Kirie Miltiade he said , pay me when you are next here !!!
Cant wait to get there for lunch and a couple of bottles of KIHOTIS white dry wine . All that money saved by flying Easyjet will more than pay for our lunch !!! Im enjoying the children , Mr Yiannis nose looks to be healing , Christina such a bright child for a 6 year old speaks fluent Greek and English and the 10 month old little Katerina , blonde with bright blue eyes looks more like my late wife , so everyone says , O PSIHI MOU STO ...KOURION !!!

Enjoy your lunch, especially the wine. I will raise a glass (KEO of course) to you at lunch time!

One of the reasons CA is so expensive (and still loses money) is that it is used by the political parties to provide jobs for their supporters and their families. Hence a very expensive, under-utilised, and incompetent workforce.

CA ticket prices are quite fair for a full service airline. No different to other airlines!

I agree! CA is not profitable because the RoC Government uses it to provide jobs for the boys!

EasyJet is fertile ground for Pilots!

We love poaching them from EasyJet! 6 EasyJet Pilots last year alone!

You get the pilots you deserve mate, and EasyJey employ young whipper Snippers who are forced to pay for their endorsements!

I have standards mate!

Milti,

sometimes I have the feeling that you need to organize yourself a bit better, because CA do at times offer heavily discounted airfares which are just as cheap as EasyJet if you book well in advance!

The choice is yours really, but I don't like supporting budget airlines purely for the fact that they are eroding crew work conditions and pay, but then again, I am very spoilt when travelling because I only pay a fraction of what you pay with any IATA airline of my choice, which quite often includes a free upgrade to Business. Therefore, I tend to go for airlines that offer Business and First Class, and not the cattle trucks you like flying on where passengers are crammed on like sardines and where the pilots have bought their jobs by paying for their type endorsements as I believe this mocks the profession!

This type of practice, and the bonds placed within their contracts are quite frankly illegal, and is something the pilot unions need to closely monitor!
