Gasman, my drone security eye in the sky keeps a close watch on that area, only joking.

Small world, Princess Margarets lease our Windsor home just up the road from the main building for use as a seperate clinic.

Like your son one of our boys had a hearing problem when he was young. Teachers at the Royal Free School in Windsor wrote him off as being a nice kid with little interest in school or learning which was how we found out he had a problem. At home he did not seem to have a problem as we always spoke to him face to face, my wife in Greek and me in English.
Audio tests confirmed hearing loss and the NHS scheduled him for medical attention in 'three years' time. Immediate private treatment was out of the question as the private practioners were one and the same as the NHS specialists. Looked at private o/seas treatment but his hearing/middle ear problems precluded flights. Frustrated and angry we informed his school that he would no longer be attending school until he had been treated by the NHS as it was hardly worth his or their time and we did not want him to be marginalised as being a waste of space by his teachers. With that the hounds of hell descended upon our family and my wife and I were threatened with prosecution for not sending our son to school, in response to the legal threats our solicitor countered by passing on all the the Local Education Authorities threats to the NHS East Berkshire Authority, three weeks later my son was successfully treated at the Royal National Ear Nose and Throat Hospital Golden Square (now at the Greys End Rd).

Since then our son who supposedly had no interest in school or learning has picked up just a little and has a science PhD and a Medical Doctorate. He works within the NHS as a Medical Consultant and we often wonder how many other kids have been written off at an early age for the same reason.

Well ... in the UK I had a cholycystectomy done in a private hospital in Windsor for nothing.

The NHS had kept me waiting so long on the list for what was said to be urgent (3 yrs) that they had to pay for me to go private to meet their targets!

Love those hospitals where you can order a G&T and have your pals in all evening and order snacks for them!

I was in London the previous evening, and by the next evening the procedures were carried out. Not even an appointment; so there!!!

That's nothing!

In the RoC TCs enjoy priority health care, without waiting or being placed on a waiting list, and all procedures are free of charge! This is not the case with the GCs!

Their tax euro really does go along way!

That was my point. Where is this advanced technology where as 'third-rate' countries have access to the 'advance' technology before the UK. Something is definitely wrong here. Instead of throwing money away (eg keeping dictators in their seats or wiping off other countries debts and all the foreign aid [god knows whos pockets they line] they could strive to look after their own people better.

Yes Deiz, obliged to also collect taxes and control the WHOLE of Cyprus and expect ALL citizens to respect that. But hey, you just want it all your way, all the freebies and then 2 fingers up at the RoC.

All freebies to TCs should STOP now until a settlement is reached, let mumma Turkey take the burden and pay the costs. I wonder how long before she throws you all out.

Rotate - I am getting that 'deja vu' feeling here!

Like your son one of our boys had a hearing problem when he was young. Teachers at the Royal Free School in Windsor wrote him off as being a nice kid with little interest in school or learning which was how we found out he had a problem. At home he did not seem to have a problem as we always spoke to him face to face,

Yes - almost exactly the same scenario. I found out almost by accident that he had been remarked upon as being unattentive and a bit of a dreamer and needed remedial reading help.

I felt so BAD that I hadn't noticed the problem myself. (Did used to say at times that when he got 'involved' in something he was in a 'world of his own')

The specialist reassured me that I would have been the last person to notice it because I dealt with him one on one, face to face, but that the school should have noticed earlier because they've seen the same problems many times.

I still remember the day I brought him home from the Hosp. He had to convalesce for about a week. I put a sunbed in the garden for him and, a short while later, he shouted 'Mum! I can hear the bees buzzing!' :)

He went on to get his Bsc Hon, and for years after he left school, he still held the record for the highest results in all science exams of any pupil there.

I hate to think how much it would have held him back to have had to wait until he was almost 8 yrs old before he could hear what the teachers were saying.

you said

Immediate private treatment was out of the question as the private practioners were one and the same as the NHS specialists.

Yes they usually are. My son's was the same bloke he would have had do it after waiting on the list. I'd been given an initial appointment with him for about 6 months' time - was told that I could pay for just that to see him sooner and it would at least knock that much off the wait. So I did that. He was very good and wrote letters saying it should be treated urgently but it wasn't. The surgeons do not control the waiting list. And almost all of them do private work too. Just that you can forget the wait if you go private. He had his op 3 wks later.

I have to say that Princess Margaret's were very good to me. They allowed me to share his room with no charge (said it took the load off the nurses!) and they fed me too.

And, they had sort of reassured me that they do try to keep costs down for people who don't have BUPA or any medical insurance. I just had to give the name of a guarantor who would pay if I didn't. When the bills started coming in (coz they come in separately - anaesthetist, drugs, accommodation, etc) all of them were almost exactly HALF what I'd been told to expect them to be.

I thanked them profusely, the surgeon told me the pleasure was his - that he'd been able to go away on his annual holiday feeling like 'a good samaritan' lol!

Its best if you do further research into the goings on in Cyprus before you open your mouth.

I have NOT enjoyed my property since 1963, yet I had to pay £35,000 in past taxes before I could have any dealings with the land registry. Things are not always in black and white so just **** ***.

Damn right you should pay, every one has to, but then as a turk you are expecting more privilages huh??

You think you are so special, you need special treatment, go ask the 200,000 GCs that were evicted and not enjoyed their properties.

So why don't you just ****.*** yourself.

You (and your lot) have this "whats mine is mine and whats yours is mine" mentality.
