Perfect computing early 90s... :)

Today I went through numerous old hard disks collecting dust only to discover that one or two of them were mine! :shock:

Ladies & Gentlemen, I have great pleasure to present you with GR’s Ms DOS 4.1 PC setup circa early 90s… 8)

AUTOEXEC.BAT :D

@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\DOS;
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
SET SOUND=C:\VIBRA16
VERIFY ON
C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /E /V /M:32
C:\MOUSE.COM
C:\VIBRA16\MIXERSET /P /Q
MODE COM1 BAUD=19 PARITY=N DATA=8 STOP=1
MODE COM2 BAUD=19 PARITY=N DATA=8 STOP=1
MODE CON: RATE=32 DELAY=1
AIM LOW
C:\DOS\SCANDISK.EXE /ALL /AUTOFIX /NOSAVE /NOSUMMARY
CD\EDL
EDL.EXE

CONFIG.SYS :D

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /NUMHANDLES=128 /TESTMEM:OFF /VERBOSE
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 28416 I=B000-B7FF D=64 A=16 H=128 HIGHSCAN VERBOSE
DEVICEHIGH=C:\VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:1F0,14 /P:170,15 /P:1E8,12 /P:168,10
DOS=HIGH,UMB
BUFFERS=40,0
FILES=40
FCBS=1,0
STACKS=0,0
LASTDRIVE=K
SWITCHES=/F
NUMLOCK=OFF
BREAK=OFF
INSTALL=C:\AIM.EXE HIGH

I can now see that even back then I had one of the world's most perfectly setup computer systems!

NB: The utilities “AIM” and “EDL” were home brew!

AIM forced everything into UMBs thereby freeing up all conventional memory whereas EDL was a fantastic menu system!

I like all this talk about modern computing. When I was a lad using an Elliot 803B with 8K of memory, no disks, and the input and output was on paper tape, we had it tough!

These young people today...........!

Problem with your story is that when computers were using punched tape for output, they were not affordable to the average home user and very few companies could afford or needed to have one… :roll:
