The point Plonker is that both sets of extremists were involved in carrying out atrocities against each other as well as against their own people. No side was innocent , an extremist from either the T/C or G/C side behaved in precisely the same fashion driven on by hatred and pseudo nationalistic tendencies. That's exactly the point that needs to be made. Unfortunately, the GC "party line" is that in 1974 Turkey invaded out of the blue and for no good reason, and all that went before 1974 is/was irrelevant.
This is the line that is being spun in the current "Stop J-Lo" saga.

Your comment about taking sides is as relevant to expats South as well as North, as many choose to side with their hosts. That is human nature.
