Jennifer Lopez opening hotel in occupied areas?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

VW said:

"History is water under the bridge" so why do you English give so much attention to Poppy Day? Why not forget the whole deal and let it wither away?

Cypriots have managed to survive countless invasions and occupations precisely because they do not forget.

I wonder how carpetbaggers feel when they read about Winston Churchill and those speeches about fighting them on the beaches. Do you think he was wrong to stand up to the Nazis? Should he have said "history is water under the bridge" and let it go?

I doubt JLo will get there even if she wanted to. These jokers that are striking in Tymbou are sending planes back to Turkey by refusing to switch the landing lights of the airport on.

There is more than one reason why the world is not allowing direct flights into this tin air hangar they call an airport.

LOPEZ SPARKS OUTRAGE OVER CYPRUS PERFORMANCE

JENNIFER LOPEZ has come under fire for accepting an invite to perform at the opening of a new hotel complex in northern Cyprus - because the launc h coincides with the 36th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of the isla nd.
The Jenny From The Block hitmaker has been booked to play at the openin g night of the luxurious Cratos Premium in the Turkish Cypriot part of th e popular tourist destination.
But the news has been met with outrage by officials at the Cyprus Actio n Network of America, who have started a campaign calling on Lopez to scr ap the gig as it falls on the 20 July (10) - the date that Turkish troops invaded the Greek-owned island in 1974.A letter of petition from the Cyprus Action Network of America reads, " It is with dismay and shock that the people of Cyprus and especially the Greek Cypriot women in the Republic of Cyprus and elsewhere in the world heard the news that you intend to attend the inauguration of a hotel in t he occupied by Turkey (sic) part of our native country.
"The Turks go to a great length to secure support from people like you in order to promote their political ambitions and objectives. Does your c haritable work and status permit you to give credibility to Turkish rapis ts, thieves, invaders, occupiers of our stolen properties?"

Not very credible journalism I say. And in BC's 3rd link, is a copy paste of the same article but have changed the 'Greek-owned island' to 'Greek island'. Some one should let them know that this is CYPRIOT OWNED ISLAND!!!

Regretfully that guess is the way with modern journalists, who seem to pick up on the same original news-feed from a press agency, change a few words and publish.

If Eric was around perhaps he'd confirm this (or otherwise).

In any event, news of the protests (even if it is the same news re-hashed) has gone global.

And there is no such thing as bad publicity. Hopefully, this will bring present day Cyprus into the world political spotlight whilst leaving the sad history as just that - history. History is water under the bridge. What counts is what you do next, not what went before.

No such thing as bad publicity...? .... Right.... For an International Artist, some one with associations to women's rights, helping out the earthquake victims over in Haiti, some one who in short pays out a small fortune every year for image and good publicity?

Would any kind member within easy distance of VW's please go over and help him.... he seems to have got his head stuck down a Turkish Toilet again.

Trust you to get the wrong end of the stick.
I wasn't talking about J.Lo, ref publicity, I was talking about TRNC.
Kick up a fuss about someone as famous as her visiting and ask people to try to stop her coming and some of them might just ask "why?"
Careful they don't take your version of the "truth" with a pinch of salt.
In the mean time, TRNC gets loads of free publicity, like you couldn't buy.

It is raising awaresness that there is a situation (division) in Cyprus that many don't know about. Everyone knows there is always at least 2 sides to a story and yours is only one of them.
Let's face it, most people in the world don't know where Cyprus is, and could care less.
