Turkish Cypriot leader wants Cyprus settlement this year

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Wed Jun 30, 2010 12:03 am

The window of opportunity will close, and then what? We will have partition. But partition is what we have now.

Erogulu want to reunite the island but has made it clear, as he did in the above interview that people should not be uprooted again, so he nixes any chance of a territorial readjustment. What is left is a paltry compensation package which is worse than an insult, one tenth of 1974 land value. BFD!

IF the Turks are so keen ona solution why not publicise and dress up their offer, shorticircuit the GC political establishment and appeal to the GC public. They do not because they have nothing to offer. Their goal is a simple one, press till the GCs officialise the status quo. This must be part of Davutoglu's new doctrine of Strategic Superficiality. A process that depends on all your neighbors being Malakes.

The saddest thing in all this is that the TCs do not react. I have never seen such a passive community.

I couldn't possibly comment on that statement. They are all Greek Cypriots.

So they are not friends?

Seems you are some shoddy person through and through!

No - my friends are GCs. I live where the GCs live (unlike you when you are here - in your joke Brit outpost)

'Tis YOUR friend calling them liars.

None of my GC friends display any of your shitty qualities.

And two GCs over here at the moment from the UK (bringing his mum's corpse back to bury her here) were actually talking to me about people 'like you'. I recognised you from the descriptions they gave.

They said time has stood still for those GCs here for 30 odd years and they couldn't wait to get back to London. It's why they took an apartment instead of staying in the village!

And not having been over for many years now, in their opinion, Cyprus had turned into one big BUILDING SITE. But that it used to be really lovely.

Nikitas you are spot on. I also believe that the Cypriot government is not reacting enough either. They should pressure the UN to take note of what really is happening. We have a third country namely Turkey occupying land and yet they are asking us to time line how about they set a time line for the withdrawl of Turkish troops and the return of property by those who aren't the legal and recognised owners.

The EU has already accepted the whole of the Island as member State. Surely they cannot go back now and divide one of their States into two unique nations and lastly can really 35,000 people have a successful nations and what if the RoC an already member state blocks any attempts of the breakaway regime joining, then what. Are the TC's prepared to formally become a Turkish province.

Nikitas doesn't know them. He was going by what you said ... or, did not say in their defence.

As for myself,I have been thinking for some time that there are other nice countries with a warm climate where I could feasibly contemplate going to live and probably for less than I need here. The biggest bonus is that I will escape from all the politicians here and their lies and crap and also be away from the Russian mafia who now control a large portion of the Cyprus banks deposits(around 19 billion euros apparently!)Before I leave though there is one thing I want to do and that is to go and take a look at what is left of our former house in Varosha and take some photos, just for memories sake.I doubt if it worth applying for permission as I have heard that the Turkish Army never give it,especially to private individuals. The nearest point along the fence to it is about 10 minutes walk away and as it is in a quiet area I suppose there is a reasonable chance I could get in and out without being caught, especially if I choose the right time of day and have someone with me.Of course if the place was controlled by reasonable people they would have allowed me in anyway under the circumstances and I would even have been prepared to pay something for their trouble but as we know, this country is a lunatic asylum where most people live in self-denial when it comes to reality!
I also fully agree that many G.C.'s are thoroughly fed-up with the situation here, particularly with the way the economy is going and have lost confidence in everything, the government in particular!!
Sorry to sound so pessimistic but after 36 years of trying to be optimistic and hoping for miracles,I am about to give up.

I agree with you on many of your points.....Unless you are a refugee and know what has been lost for the past 36 years, one can never understand. The worst day before 74 is infinite times better then the best day of being a refugee......Ive talked to some friends that are refugees and no matter how long one fights and scrapes and makes there is an emptiness that abounds a weight that holds you down almost to the point of loosing your freedom. to move like you want...Land and heritage is never forgotten. The scent of a lemon grove at sunset transports you back to your memories wherever you are. The waterand the sea never compares , of back then, you always compare to wherever you are today. Its the curse of being a refugee. You say you want to cut the ropes to to your happiest memories, if you find a way let me know.

No...you were when you said this...

I've said this before - GC pals of mine VOWED they would leave their beloved Cyprus forever if he won.

They are all still here.

They vowed and then they broke that vow. They are liars. Being GC has nothing to do with this, don't be a racist.
