And he owned the apartment next door to me as well - his daughter lived in that one. AND he owned a house elsewhere in Limassol where his ex wife still lived. Those apartments were over 20 yrs old and lots of them had Arabic owners. I was told that the area used to be known as an 'Arab Quarter' years ago. Lots of Lebanese live there now.

I'm quite gobsmacked that a Cypriot of all people should be convinced that Cypriots take any notice of the law.

As my Cypriot Solicitor here in Cyprus is fond of saying whenever a stumbling block is run into - 'Don't worry, THERE'S WAYS ROUND IT' :D

My Bank Manager here takes much the same attitude too.

Yes, and it is very useful!

There are many things we can still control which EU legislation has nothing to do with.

Agreed. But there are many things that you have to toe the EU line over too - the thing about non Cypriots only being able to own ONE property is one of them. Not if the buyer is an EU citizen.

Are RUSSIANS EU citizens? Have you any idea how much property in Cyprus they own?

Wasn't all that long ago I was reading something about Cyprus offering almost instant citizenship to property buyers if they bought property in excess of £1m or thereabouts.

To get back to the title of this thread; there is a great deal of what I would describe as 'nationalist stereotyping' here. At times, it gets mildly irritating.

When I brought my dog into Cyprus on an EU Pet Passport, complying with everything required, Cyprus authorities wanted to impose an extra stipulation/condition. I queried this and was told they could only impose their own rules for I think it was 2 years after joining the EU and, after that, EU rules applied.

I argued about it with the chief veterinary officer here and was told that the reason was 'so many Lebanese coming over because of the trouble with Israel and them all wanting to bring their dogs and cats with them'.

I ain't kidding.

CBBB at least you seem to agree or at least be AWARE that a lot of things that are not 'supposed' to go on or happen in Cyprus - DO!

B25 ... you have made the gasbag reveal more of its anti-RoC propaganda. It's talking shit again.

Businesses are exempt from the 'one person- one property' rule. It doesn't "know" these people as well as it claims but makes stuff up to fill the gap in its knowledge with crap.

Many Brits register their properties in Company names and can hence amass a large property portfolio. But, it's legitimate and no doubt there may be some benefits to the RoC.

First bit is correct. Second bit is Oracle LYING ABOUT ME AGAIN.

And as regards the Brits stuff - I am NOT talking about Brits who registered their properties in Company names.

I know some of the Brits I am talking about very well. And I know the developers who sold to them and the lawyers who acted for them.

But then you do get to know these things when YOU LIVE IN CYPRUS.

I probably know more Cypriots than she does - I live among them - she lives in an ex pat Brit outpost when in Cyprus.

These things don't happen in the UK?

Drunk drivers that give the Masonic "handshake" to the copper and get told to go on their way. Not me, but I know that this happens. Is it not the same thing?

CBBB I am not say that they DO NOT happen anywhere.

What I am saying is that it is NONSENSE to insist they DO NOT happen in Cyprus!
