The hate displayed by GCs clear for all to see

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

As far as I know there are Cypriots and Non-Cypriots. That makes Runaway a Non-Cypriot. Now runaway Runaway. Leave Cypriots alone and take your rable with you.

Şimdi de kalan bir parça Türkçeni mi kaybettin??? We call the illegal entity south of yavru vatan "güney kıbrıs rum yönetimi" which makes the enemy south cypriot. You have run away thenisrumsuyu and KKTC voters had their say. Goodbye rumsuyu in exile.

"you people are heading for an economic crisis"

In a globalised economy which you seem to like, how long will it be before the Euro and the dollar crisis hits Turkey and by extension the TRNC? Wait till you see the second and third quarter results of Turkish exports. They will be a revelation on how the global economy affects us all.

What you fail to note is the almost frantic resurgence of Turkish Cypriot culture, as evidenced by dozens of fol dance groups, song collections, folk dress museums and the rest of it. Obviously SOME TCs do not want to disappear and become a speck in an ocean of Turks.

Some day you will realise the wisdom of Gerald Durrel (brother of Lawrence) when he said "there is a lot to be said for being independent, efficient and small".

Unfortunately, VP's mind is neither independent nor efficient.

Anyway, leaving that aside, the question was asked in the OP, and it's been answered.

No matter how much you do not like the answers, they remain valid and truthful answers. Once the question is asked there's no getting away from the answers.

Perhaps it's the question you're not comfortable with?

Perhaps VP was referring to pre-1974.

I remember GCs in my village (albeit the younger ones) beginning to hate us in 1957-58. The older generation did not hate us then.

Well thought the question was posed in the present tense.

Anyway,my late grandmother lived in a back-water of a village (even though it is/was on the main road to A. Andreas) up near the top end of the Karpas. A very mixed village, she lived in amongst tissies, without probs, certainly nothing that she mentioned in her monthly airmails to us in London.

The problem back then up there was the daily struggle to put food on the table, things like eoka, tmt etc didn't get a look in up there.

We all have similar and differing experiences. Now make sense out of that.

Well have no experience cos was a long way away, but perhaps ...

places like Anglisidhes, Kophinou, Ayios Theodoros (Larnaca District), are far more strategically important than my backwater of an old village in the Karpas.

  You missed out Kivisili/Civisil. Thats where I learnt that there were Turkish Cypriots you could trust - like when Uncle Cemal/Djemal was entrusted to ensure the safety of the Greek church opposite his house. His (uncle Cemals) son still feels the slap on his face he received from his father when he attempted to remove the cross from the top of the church.

This, later saved his life when Greek soldiers stopped his bus and detained him. Local Greek Cypriots went to Larnaca and secured his release.

Yes, kept the list short. As you may recall I know Kivisili very well, Mrs C has relis there, visited many, many times. Still remains as it was. very unchanged.

I'd like to agree with you but was surprised that so many buildings were erected around the church. The very same church where we all welcomed the Annual Panagyri. The house nearest to it, the one with the balcony belonged to Uncle Djemal (RIP). The church almost looks insignificant among the new build. I wish I took a photo, but was too shocked.

Alethriko has grown ever so big though.

Will have more of a wander next time am down that way. Agree Alethriko is very popular with loads of new buildings.

Oddly enough, there's such a frantic resurgence everywhere in the world; even in Turkey... It's just an uprising against popular culture and socia-cultural re-organization attempt of some intellectuals...

It has nothing to do with not wanting to disappear and become a speck in a so-called ocean of Turks... where were the TCs 450 years ago? Hadn't TCs brought their own culture to Cyprus when they emigrated to Cyprus from the "ocean of Turks"? Haven't the TCs aware of their ancestors emigrated from Anatolia to Cyprus?

What a small minority of TC intellectuals are angry with is the stolidity of the government officials to socio-cultural, socia-economic and educational matters...

The rest of the TCs? They are very happy with the "give and take" process and western values; such as trans dance culture, bars, discos, hamburgers, kentucky style fried chicken, pizza etc...

Its a viscious circle and will continue as long as posters whom you can see from the number of venomous threads that have been opened on this forum. Noway has either isde developed over the past 6 years since the borders opened, we are further apart than we have ver been as neither side really want the other, each are content to dig their heels in by spewing up the same old rehtoric which will guarantee continued division be it recognized or unrecognized, its here to stay and its what we deserve because we do not have the will, desire or capacity to unite.
