What you fail to note is the almost frantic resurgence of Turkish Cypriot culture, as evidenced by dozens of fol dance groups, song collections, folk dress museums and the rest of it. Obviously SOME TCs do not want to disappear and become a speck in an ocean of Turks.
Oddly enough, there's such a frantic resurgence everywhere in the world; even in Turkey... It's just an uprising against popular culture and socia-cultural re-organization attempt of some intellectuals...
It has nothing to do with not wanting to disappear and become a speck in a so-called ocean of Turks... where were the TCs 450 years ago? Hadn't TCs brought their own culture to Cyprus when they emigrated to Cyprus from the "ocean of Turks"? Haven't the TCs aware of their ancestors emigrated from Anatolia to Cyprus?
What a small minority of TC intellectuals are angry with is the stolidity of the government officials to socio-cultural, socia-economic and educational matters...
The rest of the TCs? They are very happy with the "give and take" process and western values; such as trans dance culture, bars, discos, hamburgers, kentucky style fried chicken, pizza etc...
