What foreign languages can Cypriots here speak other than the two official languages of Cyprus Greek and Turkish, and English which has become a kind of lingua franca in Cyprus.

We had a friend from Dhali, who moved to London, learned English, became a bus driver, but sometimes only did half the route, I don't think the supervisor at the bus depot ever realised it was because he got mixed up with the road signs.

He was married to a French girl and later moved with her to Biarritz. As it was near the border with Spain, he was employed by the local bus company to pick up the Spanish workers each day to drive them to and from their work site. He learned French, but told us he spoke Spanish much better than French.

Later he married a German lady after his divorce, moved to Germany and learned German. There were quite a lot of Greeks in Germany and he came back to Cyprus with the Greek accent - I would say he was quite a linguist.

Regards, Annaka.

With 50% Wolof speakers I can only blame it on the African World Cup fever… :?
