He was married to a French girl and later moved with her to Biarritz. As it was near the border with Spain, he was employed by the local bus company to pick up the Spanish workers each day to drive them to and from their work site. He learned French, but told us he spoke Spanish much better than French.
Later he married a German lady after his divorce, moved to Germany and learned German. There were quite a lot of Greeks in Germany and he came back to Cyprus with the Greek accent - I would say he was quite a linguist.
