AGEISM IN CYPRUS

Postby corfiot » Wed Jun 23, 2010 2:06 pm

Hi!

I have been to Cyprus before, but have applied for several posts recently in the island, without reply, and would like to know from people if cyprus really is ageist in it's employment.

I am 44, an entertainer, photographer, writer, graphics layout artist, and am interested to hear from people who can refute this, or back it up, save me wasting a trip, or anyone from hotels who can use my services.

As usual, I have to say ignore GR, not so much ageism as a lack of jobs at the moment. Seeing as you don't have experience in anything useful, you will find it very difficult to get a job here.

"useful" as in plumbing and electrical appliance repair?

CBBB you are sounding like those Yahoo factoids.

How many vacancies do you know of in Cyprus that requires these "skills" Nikitas?

Lots of people are having trouble finding work here at the mo.

But one thing I'd say about Tony's chances of getting any is that he is highly unlikely to get anything at all while he is not in Cyprus.

His 'skills' are the sort that he would be more likely (with a lot of luck) to get offers of work for if he was living here, integrating himself into his local community and networking himself - putting the word about everywhere - in the hope that someone will remember him if they hear of anything.

I don't think there is any shortage of 'entertainers' punting themselves out for work in Cyprus. Nor photographers. As for graphic design - I know quite a few who were working in the IT industry (such as it is here) who have recently lost their jobs and unable to find work.

The ability to speak Greek of course is a big bonus when job seeking in Cyprus.

cy is anything but ageist when it comes to jobs
