Not yet Deniz. I will go there when that area will be free from Turkish occupation.
Don't wanna go in prison, I must let you know more than 15 years ago - me and other geologists - were captured from turk army close to Morfou ( I don't remember now the village name ) because we were too close to the boundary. They kept us for 8 hours ( under a deadly sun) until FINALLY they understood we were not enemy, only students..

Sorry about that. I was arrested there too (nearly arrested after a tug-o-war) I was released. I was taking pictures for all my sins. I hope they leave soon. I have a photo I like to discuss with you. Geologic of course.

My hide-away in Greece boasts not a single Turk has managed to penetrate its manic towers and its spiritual quality is unsurpassable! Despite the countless invaders in Cyprus, there remain havens in Cyprus where the barbarians dared not go.

I wonder if there is a trait amongst Mongolians for Steppes and Plains which means our strongholds will always be the mountains. Perhaps Mongolians suffer from vertigo!

Messinia or Mani?

Which village is nearby?

This badly taken pic (whilst driving) is just beneath the Pentadaktylos itself. The road is the alternative road from Kerinia to Famagusta and or Nicosia. It shows a cut through an Iron-oxide rich vein. I often see this and have always wondered about how it was formed. Since we know that Cyprus has at least been sub-marine at leeast three times; could this have once been a subterranean tunnel for Iron Oxide enriched lava from the 'volcanic' age (my term)?

Speaking of Gold and Iron Oxide, had a bore-hole dug a couple of years ago, ended up with a mound of some 30m3 of rocks containing loads and loads of iron pyrites (Fool's Gold).

Cyprus is full of Pyrites. I still have a lump of it from my school trip near Amiandos - the year was 1957.

What the tour guide was especially proud of (during that trip) was the Hospital for Incurable Diseases (Emphysema and other nasties).

Ciao Deniz ( and Bill ! ) I enlarged your shot, It looks like an iron oxide outcrop, by the way it could be also everything else..
Do you remember if the rock besides are made of limestone?
I ask you 'cause red colors could be also due to soil surface alteration..calcareous rocks are commonly alterated by wheathering.

As a general concept all the Pentadaktylos chain is made of sedimentary rocks ( for what I can remember, as I told you before we were cleansed from kirenia like many of you)
Any suggestion?
