nothing is being done about carpetbaggers in the south ,AND YOU HAVE THEM ,only last week three gc were arrested ,one a land registry employee and another an estate agent for forging tc title deeds into gc deeds . they had made deals worth 3.5 million euro before being found out by sheer luck,how much has allready been sold without any buyer knowing its tc land, most purchasers in the south have no deeds to prove otherwise

I think if a few of these carpetbaggers had to endure a long delay by customs and immigration on arrival for "technical" reasons word would soon get around and they would stop using Larnaca. A complete ban would probably result in a slapped wrist for the ROC from the EU.

I think they have a bloody cheek, they abuse GCs at every opportunity on their crummy forums but they are only too happy to take advantage of the ROC facilities when it suits them. "We are EU citizens, you can't stop us" they say. The bastards pick and choose the law as and when it suits them.

I couldn't agree more about these hypocritical riff-raff. Police and customs should be turning over more of those who appear to have broken the laws of the Republic. Or perhaps they could set up a "name and shame" rogues gallery at the terminal.

I ask this question over and over. I don't understand why more GCs are not demanding the answer to this question from their RoC Government.



Even this forum carried adverts for holidays in GC owned hotels over there - hotels that are on the proscribed list.

I'm told by a GC policeman pal that they have the right to not only question, but take apart the cars of GCs at the crossings and make life very miserable for them.

All these laws and rules and regs which are stated but it is then said 'in practice it doesn't happen'. Or 'no action will be taken'. Or they are preceded by bits like 'technically' or 'officially'...

The big question to me is - why don't the GCs who complain about all this COMPLAIN AND PROTEST TO THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT ABOUT IT?

Why aren't people trying to find out WHO instructs the police/airport officials and others NOT to implement the laws, rules and regs?

Two reasons:
1. In the best tradition of all whingers, they only want to whinge, they don't really want to bother their arses about doing something about it.
2. They are afraid of what they might be told which could shatter some of their dearest held beliefs.

Because there are at least two parts to government, law and policy. Just because something has been legislated does not mean that it has to be implemented and enforced. The degree to which legislation is implemented and enforced is a matter of government policy. This is true is Cyprus as it is the world over.

The governments of the RoC since 2003 (as well the EU and the UN) have no wish to enforce legislation which hampers crossing of the green line. In any case, it is arguable that to do so would be counter-productive to RoC interests.

(I would have thought that the strategy of attempting to isolate in different ways Turkish Cypriots for the last fifty years has singularly failed and has in fact hugely contributed to (a) the division of Cyprus, (b) pushed Turkish Cypriots into ever closer dependency on Turkey, (c) legitimised Turkish continued intervention, and (d) contributed to the relative weakening of Cypriots vis-a-vis Turks in northern Cyprus.

The RoC governments have never actually tried to pull the rug from under Turkey by demonstrating that it has the interests of Cypriots (Turkish) at heart. Punishing through isolation Turkish Cypriots for being fearful of Greek Cypriot actions instead of attempting to re-assure and amend past mistakes has gifted the north and many Turkish Cypriots to Turkey. Further talk of isolation and 'close the borders' will just extinguish once and for all any possibility of reconciliation. However I have long suspected that many in this forum have absolutely no interest in reconciliation, just in making other people's lives miserable).
