can someone please clarify a point for me. i keep reading that prior to 74 tc lived on 3% of the land. i find this a bit hard to believe. is this right?

Allegedly, during the first invasion of 1974, Turkish paratroopers infiltrated most, but not all - and I'm not sure of the exact bounds - of what is being occupied today because it comprised the area most heavily populated by Turkish Cypriots. In my mind's eye, this constituted well over 3%.

I think this figure relates to the 'worst' situation when many TC in Cyprus had retreated into 'enclaves' ?

As far as i knew the 3% refers to the period when TC's fled their villages and grouped together in about 3% of the land.

I do not know of any independent and definative source of this kind of info.

The 3% figure is from the period 64 onwards with TC moving back from enclaves to return to their homes onwards from this 'high' point.

There is some info here but not in land % terms but in absolute number terms

I presume the British had relatively indpendent and accurate figure of population land ownership and distribution prior to hading over power in 1960?

Similar to what erol said, I had heard of this percentage when people were talking about the enclaves that T.Cs were forced to live in.

No it's an exageration. Heres a map taken from "trnc" web site in the past.

from what i heard (nothing official probabl from this forum) TCs OWNED 3% of the land pre-74.
