They do , and so has Northern Ireland .

What’s the difference between “Britain” and “Great Britain”?


These days they're synonymous but officially GB includes Scotland whereas Britain is England/Wales only.

What’s the difference between “Britain” and “Great Britain”?


Great Britain is the island containing Scotland , England and Wales .
UK is United kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .
Britain is used when referring to UK as a whole in a politically.

The British Isles includes Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands (Guernsey, Jersey) Isle of Man, Isle of Wight plus a bunch of other islands in the seas around Great Britain and Ireland.
