Report: Israel, Greece, Cyprus Cooperate Against Turkey

Reported: 19:59 PM - Jun/16/10

Is Israel replacing Turkey with Cyprus and Greece?

The American television network in Arabic "Al-Hura" quoted sources in the Israeli Foreign Ministry that the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Marcos Akifrianu secretly visited Israel ten days ago to discuss with him ways of cooperation between the countries in their struggle against the new Turkis-Iranian alliance.

The sources also reported that a senior representative of the Greek government secretly visited Israel a few days ago to discuss the same matter.

Now does this bode fertile ground for pan-Cypriot liberal unity? Of course not. This is playing with fire. You want heels dug in there is no better way to ensure another 20, 30 years of the only option being the status quo.

Instead of building bridges we are seeing petrol thrown to enflame relations. As this seems to be gaining traction, what chance, what method a solution. No room for moderates. I see no solution with now the risk of blood spilled, dark days indeed.

Just consider if TCs had the power to conspire against Greece, what chance of GCs believing living in unity with TCs is viable. The politiking in the EU is nothing compared with such a move. Are GC politicians really that naive or really that arrogant as to believe this is a good path to embark upon?

We are oppressed, we are under turkish military occupation, 37% of our country is held at gun point, we are denied our homes and properties, we need help. Any port in the storm will suit us to alliviate our problems.

You had turkey do your dirty work, why do you want to deny us, yet again, the same options??

Go figure.

Kyprianou's visit to Israel had been planned a long time before the flotilla incident.

Greece cancelled a joint air force exercise the day after the incident. The only recent foreign trips of foreign ministry personnel have been to Brussels and concern finance matters.

Military contracts between Israel and Turkey are being fulfilled.

These are conspiracy theories al araba. Totallly valueless and based in fantasy.

It’s the geopolitical change some of us have been waiting for a long time…

With every passing week since the flotilla incident, the liberation of Cyprus looks more and more real…

Let's hope so - Nikitas

Really naive GR. You basically force Turkey into a position of pressing for Taiwanisation of the TRNC - backed into a corner this is the optimal path. I don't like that, although a positive move from current position, it will cause decades of issues and antagonism with little hope of exacting the best relationships between the north and south.
Oh, and heightened threat of missiles etc. going off over our heads. Personally I'd rather not escalate risk - living in the south, just a few miles away, I'm not sure you should to.

What makes you think this north/south crap is gonna last forever?

How the West Is Losing Turkey

“The West is shocked. A country that covered the southeastern flank of NATO for 60 years, and that stood by the side of the United States and Europe, with the second-largest army in the alliance -- from the Korean War to Afghanistan -- is suddenly a friend of the mullahs? The State Department in Washington calls it a "disappointment," while some in Israel, the United States and Germany are already predicting a new "axis of evil."

That was a very stupid over reaction by Greece. A stupid move to say the least!
