I gather that this young woman is an alcoholic who is not working and claiming benefit. It seems that she has managed to save some of her money and arrange a holiday in Cyprus. The BBC are going to film her holiday........I think thats about the gist of it.
Alcoholism is a very serious illness and sufferers should receive our sympathy and help not outright condemnation. If she was suffering from, say, cancer and arranged the holiday by saving up her benefits would your comments be as caustic...?
The powers that be within the UK NHS have concluded that she is entitled to benefit. Well enough said really. The NHS is there to assist people so if her claim has been approved what's it got to do with anyone else ?
If she has had the ability to save up some of her payments to enable her to have a holiday then good for her. What she spends her payments on is entirely her concern.
Someone here in an earlier reply stated that they pay income tax, social insurance payments etc etc and have not been able to afford a holiday for some time. Furthermore they stated that they were not entitled to benefit.... Well, if you are not entitled then you are not deemed to be in need of financial assistance from the NHS so tough titty mate.
I totally agree with the BBC devoting time to this womans case. If as a result of its eventual screening it helps to highlight the severity of alcoholism and assists this woman in overcoming her illness then it could result in a job being well done.
Ban her from coming to Cyprus ? Confiscate her passport ? What utter tripe some people come out with !!!
If this woman is indeed an alcoholic then what she needs is assistance to overcome it and not be slagged off by tosspots who have nothing better to do with their time.
Alcoholism is indeed a very serious illness but it self induced. She has a choice to make, if she had the determination and strength of character she could come off the booze. A relative of mine was a serious heroin addict, it took him three weeks to get over the craving when he went "cold turkey" and even months later he still had problems but he stayed clean and lives a normal life now.
The Welfare State has gone over the top in propping up people's lives. I have a niece who has had two children by a local yob, he won't support them and she won't "grass on him" so the state keeps them. She only buys designer clothes, recently she bought a car with government trust fund money and because her man won't come back to her she now wants a boob job on the NHS because she is depressed.
My only conclusion is: -
THE WORLD HAS GONE EFFING MAD
PS The tosspots are the morons who believe that the only way to enjoy themselves is to tip gallons of drink down their necks every friday and saturday night and chuck it up in the hospital where they are treated for self induced injuries and where no doubt they will be treated for liver cirrhosis before they reach middle age
