Actually Stud, you're wrong. The Anatolian settlers claimed a solution in 1984 in the formation of some army base they call a 'republic' in the North which ONLY they RECOGNIZE as legitimate.
So if the Anatolian base is a sovereign entity why the HELL are they slobbering and foaming at the mouth over resources from another country they have zero right over.

Lawd the hypocrisy is blinding!

Their posture very much shows the so-called TRNC is at best a puppet organistion - I ignore it because as an illegal entity it has no rights and all of the area falls within the the EEZ of the only recognised government, the RoC.

Doesn't look like Turkey is coming near Cyprus any time soon ...

The General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs (GDPA) acts as the Government regulatory body for the oil industry in the country and works under the Ministry of Energy. GDPA handles all the oil industry activities; granting exploration licenses / production leases, refinery and pipe line permits etc. The oil licensing process for oil and gas concessions are in three types: 1) Reconnaissance Permit, 2) Exploration License and 3) Production Lease. The newcomers may select either a permit or an exploration license. Also a company may enter a joint venture with TPAO or others or may act along and file its application. Under a Permit, the Government grants the non-exclusive right to conduct a geological investigation over an area. The size of the area and the term of the Permit is controlled by GDPA. However, the last permit was granted to BP-TPAO joint venture for the Black Sea offshore in 1980, since then there have been no permit issued.

That map seems to show exploration licenses issued by the 'pigm'...do you have any maps that show where exploration has actually taken place?

Turkey Approves License for Iran-EU Gas Pipeline Whose Prospects Remain Gloomy
Monday, 20 December 2010 00:47
By Dr. Theodoros Tsakiris

Turkey’s Petroleum Administration or PIGM announced on 1 December 2010 that it has granted a license to, Turang Transit Tasimacilik, a subsidiary of Som Petrol, regarding the construction of a 35 bcm/y (billion cubic meters per year) pipeline from Iran, a project that started back in August 2007 within the framework of a Turkish-Iranian MoU on strategic energy cooperation that aspired to involve Turkey’s TPAO not only on the construction of a second Iranian-Turkish export pipeline (the first one was commissioned back in 1996) but also on development of several South Pars Phases which would furnish the export pipeline with the appropriate resources needed for its operation. PIGM’s decision is the second step for this major undertaking that is not being apparently pursued by any state-associated institutions or company in Turkey. The selection of the company, which would have to come up with the multi-billion dollars financial arrangement at the face of the toughest international sanctions yet to be imposed on Iran, was announced last July and constitutes the first indication that this project may be nothing more than a mirage.

Yes of course I also have some scientific articles.
I should point out that the exploration is completed at the end of 2009, so there are two possibilities:
- gas was not found (there's a simple tectonics reason)
- gas was found, but in terms of cost and profit is not convenient to begin drilling at the moment.
Both Chevron and TPAO have in fact focused research in the Black Sea.
If you enlarge the image above you can see that the area is not so far from north cyprus coastline.

There was a topic Lit wrote in 2009 about this.
I only put the article written at the time
