Most expensive holiday destination revealed
By Donna Werbner

A new study has revealed that France is the most expensive country to go to on holiday, despite the public's perception that it is cheaper to visit than Dubai, Japan and the Nordic countries.

The research by flight comparison website Skyscanner looked at the cost of various items including a coffee, a beer, a meal, accommodation and car hire in 30 different destinations.

France finished top ahead of Switzerland, Denmark, Brazil and Russia, when comparing holiday prices – excluding flights.

Even if you do include flights, France is still the third most expensive country to visit, higher than Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.

The findings were in contrast to a separate survey of 1,500 people in the UK, also by the site, which showed that most thought that Sweden would be the most expensive holiday destination, with Norway and Switzerland in second and third place. France was ranked just ninth by those who took part in the research.

The most expensive country to visit overall, including flights, is Japan. By contrast, Cyprus is the least expensive, before and after flights are taken into consideration.

Despite this, most people perceive Cyprus as quite expensive, ranking it 14th most expensive out of the 30 countries surveyed.

But seriously at the start of another holiday season. Here's a bit of a plug for CY from a pushdohcharlouee ....

The Euro has had a bit of a battering in recent weeks and visitors from GB can now enjoy about 1.17E to the GB£, a bit more if you change at the shops in the tourist areas.

This is precisely why Cyprus ends up with the dregs like gassyperson.

As I have always maintained, if I was president(ess) I would ask all tourist-oriented businesses to quadruple their charges ...

Too many riff-raffs getting through!

:D :D

In the light of anything that someone may or may not have posted above and as a further plug for Inexpensive Proletariat Tourism in CY, may I recommend the tourist resort of Agia Napa which has great beaches, shallow warm seas that are great for the kids, and the restaurants there are great value for those of us on a Common People's Budget.

Also Ayianaba has some of the liveliest clubs for those that want to party in to the early hours, with very reasonable entrance fees.

:P

No, no, no! You misunderstood. All Diaspora Greek Cypriots, and especially those whose ancestral homes are being occupied, should be subsidised by these freeloading Brits holidaying on the cheap and having the cheek to moan!

Miltiades is one of the worst moaners (coffee at Paphos) and should immediately make amends with his country folk. :D
