Look Who's Talking: Turkey!

Hussain Abdul-Hussain Posted: June 9, 2010 12:55 PM

A country that has been occupying part of a neighbor state for decades, that often sends its air force to bomb anti-government militants, that refuses to give civil rights to its biggest minority and that twists arms of world governments in order to impose its version of history... well, you guessed it, it is Turkey.

In 1974, Turkey invaded the northern part of Cyprus presumably to rescue Turkish Cypriots amid growing tensions with their compatriot Greek Cypriots. Since then, Turkey has maintained its occupation over Northern Cyprus that proclaimed its independence in 1983. Going against the will of the United Nations, Turkey was the only one to recognize Northern Cyprus, while the world stood in support of Nicosia's sovereignty over the occupied land.

Again, regarding Turkish hypocrisy, the prime minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, received the international pariah who leads Sudan – President Omar Bashir – a man who has committed genocide. The International Criminal Court has an arrest warrant out for him on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Not only has the Darfur region of Sudan experienced genocide directed by Bashir and his government, but other regions of southern Sudan have as well. During the visit in mid-August of last year, Erdogan said he did not believe Bashir was guilty of the war crimes for which he was indicted.

And here is how the Turkish prime minister justified that widely disputed contention: “It is not possible for those who belong to the Muslim faith to carry out genocide,” said Erdogan. He deems Bashir innocent. End of story.

Can just make a small correction to the article Lit posts, the bit in large text above, cos as all will agree CF is the English Speaking World's Suppository of Factual History on all things CY so it's better to correct it...

Am sure all but the Partitionists will agree, there was no rising tensions between the communities in the immediate pre-invasion period.

(There was certainly a lot of tension between Big Mak and the Junta.)

It's sarcastically rubbishing Turkey's claim for invading.

It's not your neighbour because there's no such political entity as 'south Cyprus', you dumb fuck. Akamas and Tirillia, for example, are in the north-east of Cyprus and have northern coasts.

Go learn basis geography. Surely they must have elementary schooling - even in the backward, Turkish-controlled extremities of eastern Thrace.
