Turkish Frigates F244 and F243 in Greek Waters.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkish Frigates F244 and F243 in Greek Waters.

Postby Paphitis » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:41 am

Another Turkish provocation is currently under way.

Turkish Naval Frigates F244 Barbaros and F243 Yildrim Yavus are in the Saronic Gulf near Athens.

The 2 MEKO 200 Class Frigates, have been sailing in and out of Greek Territorial Waters!

First Greece, then Cyprus, now Israel and Greece once again!

Turkey will not just stop with Israel. It's Geopolitical posturing will hinder regional stability.

Greece should not have cancelled its joint Military exercise with Israel! Stupid!

Hey Paphidis, knew you'd be on about Turkey sooner or later, you lost all moral ground when you made the statement

"Israel has the right to board vessels if it feels it is in danger" even when the vessel is an aid vessel.

When you have a more serious issue, this will ring even louder in your ears.

Of course it has the right to board vessels! They can not risk any arms Shipments which will cost the lives of many Israeli innocents.

Sending aid is one thing! But rocket attacks on Israeli towns and cities is quite another!

And Greece has the right to blow the 2 Turkish Frigates out of the water.

The two frigates have been at this game for months now. The rules are clear about the right of innocent passage through national waters and the Turks are stretching this legal rule to the limit. The rule states that the passage should be direct, of as short duration as possible, ie there should be passage and not loitering and not have other purpose other than passing through. No air craft should take off or land on ships during this passage.

Over and above the psywar aspect these trips probably have the added purpose of testing Greek coastal defences. Greece has land based Exocet systems and the Turks would love to know which points on the mainland and which islands have these.

With several thousand Greek transport craft crossing and recrossing these sea lanes a collision, or other accident, especially with ships that do not keep to recognised sea lanes is a high statistical probability. Higher than getting the Greeks to switch on their exocet radars.

The other thing to note is that these cruises occur only during good weather. In winter and when the Meltemi winds pick up and reach force 9, the Turkish navy prefers to stay in harbor.

Athens says Turkish fighters buzz Greek frigate

http://www.cyprusweekly.com.cy/main/78, ... 9408-.aspx

ATHENS — Greek officials say Turkish military jets have flown dangerously low over a Greek frigate in international waters in the eastern Aegean Sea. Navy spokesman Commander Diamantis Christodoulou says the direct overflight occurred Tuesday afternoon, some 500 feet (150 meters) above the frigate Salamis.

He said two out of a formation of seven Turkish fighters engaged in the maneuver between the islands of Chios and Samos. Athens is expected to make a formal complaint to Ankara.

Regional rivals and uneasy NATO allies Greece and Turkey came three times to the brink of war between 1974 and 1996 over the island of Cyprus and Aegean boundaries.

Relations have improved over the past decade but military tension remains palpable. (AP)

No other country would stand for such provocation. They would have engaged at that distance. What is it with the Greeks and their constant complaints to Ankara? As If Ankara gives a shit about any complaint.

No sir, it is high time Greece pulled her finger out and blasted one of these MF to hell. then that would be sending a message to Ankara.

Each country, person has a universal right to self defence, seems greece and Cyprus don't!! Greece would be within her rights to have shot down these aircraft without violating any INTERNATIONAL laws.

Turkeys military posturing of late, it going to lead to a no good place, we had better be ready, the signs are on the wall.
