SEECP begins in Turkey

The 8th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) began with a reception hosted by Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin on Sunday.

Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Mevlut Cavusoglu was also in attendance at the reception in the southern province of Antalya.

The conference is hosted by parliament of the country holding rotating presidency of the forum is held once a year.

Turkey proposed to turn the conference into a parliamentary assembly. The proposal will be discussed at the two-day gathering.

SEECP is a forum for diplomatic and political dialogue among Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Croatia and Montenegro.

The initiative was launched in Sofia, Bulgaria, in July, 1996, during a meeting of the foreign ministers of South-East European countries, which decided to start a long-term process of multilateral cooperation among participating states.
