I see Turkey taking notice of UN resolutions.

As I said, no guts no glory!

Turkish hypocrisy is exposed in all its glory.

You would think that people who write this kind of strateigic crap articles would have a big military style map in their offices and would glance at it from time to time. Apparently Stylianoudis does not have such a map or else he would see the relative distances and get thinking:

A modern jet flying at 800 miles an hour reaches Israel from Alexandretta a full TWO minutes later than it would if it took off from Lefkoniko. Is this TWO minute interval so critical in modern air operations that Cyprus is needed by Turkey as a base from which to fight Israel?

Like Turkey, and Greece, Israel has Patriot missiles that shoot down anything that moves. Presumably the thing works whether the planes come from the north or the northeast.

And for one more time, siding with Israel means that within hours a whole bunch of Islamic nations will recognise the TRNC formally and decades of diplomatic effort will have gone down the toilet. The gain to counteract this madness would be what exactly?

I would think it is more like 5-7 minutes, and it does make a difference if you consider tactical maneuvering, likely interception by IAF, and payloads. Also, it becomes critical if the IAF bomb Alexandretta.

And then, cruise missiles launched from Cyprus means they have greater range. But this is all hypothetical.

Cyprus can't afford to antagonize Israel because this would be very costly. The RoC does indeed have semi decent relations with Israel, but sometimes this is on a knife edge. We have even purchased APCs, Heron UAVs, and Patrol Boats from Israel. It is important for Cyprus to have very low key cordial relations with Israel, because I have a feeling that Turkey will make more Geopolitical moves within the next few years, and it is possible for hostilities to break out which could possibly drag other nations in. In such a scenario, Cyprus will be with Israel by default.

What is stupid is the fact that Greece over reacted and called off joint Military Exercises with Israel in the Aegean. Very silly move! But the Greeks have never been smart in diplomacy, and this confirms their stupidity once again.

Furthermore, you can't confirm that a bunch of Islamic countries are even able to recognize the 'trnc'. If it were that easy, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia would've recognized the 'trnc' long ago.

I cannot find words to describe the stupidity and immorality of those who wish for a war (nuclear or conventional) between Turkey and Israel...
Maybe just as well...I wouldn't want to insult all those decent, sensible, honourable people who share the same ethnicity as these miserable excuses for human beings... :(

My thoughts exactly, Bir.

(This Paphitis chap seems like he's a pre-pubescent teenager, welded to his computer and whose appreciation of war and politics comes from playing some abominable war game or flight simulator. When not doing this, still welded to his computer, he bombards this forum with maniacal nonsense).

He does that with one hand and uses the other to play with his little joystick. Boy does he make a mess.
