Israel to send peace flotilla to Cyprus!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Veteran US reporter Helen Thomas, who covered the White House since Kennedy days was forced to resign today after she made "unacceptable comments" about Israel.

In addition to losing her job with Hearst newspapers Thomas saw speaking engagements and school lectures cancelled and received criticism from both sides of Congress.

What did she say? That Palestine is under occupation and that Jews should go back home to Poland, Germany and America where they come from. For that comment she saw her career trashed.

The power of the jewish lobby demonstrated in a very eleoquent manner yet again.

One wonders how many Congressmen have not harbored those same thoughts that Thomas had the chutzpah (jewish word that) to express on live TV.

If a reputable reporter or columnist in the States ever stated something to the effect of African Americans should go back to Africa where they came from...that would be seen as a racist comment and the reporter fired or forced to resign. Love it or leave...the United States is a multi cultured country and thats the way it works.

Who is going to stand up and say "Turks should go back to Mongolia"?

[Not the Mongolians, that's for sure! ]

... yet, everyone thinks this!

That was a terrible comment to utter, Nikitas. I agree with Lit on this one. But, in another 35 years, will you Lit, defend the right of the Turkish settlers to remain in Cyprus for good, or will you be still asking them to go back from where they came?

Just one small point. In 1947, we were helping Jews that were forcible kept in Cyprus by the Brits in a military camp in Famagusta, to secretly board all sort of ships and go illegally to Palestine. Perhaps now Nikitas, we should help them to return back from where they came ....

The mistake was to think Jews originated in Poland/ Germany/USA. This demonstrates ignorance beyond belief, even for an American politician.

What she must have meant was that they should go back to .... erm .... Bethlehem? :?

There were always Jews in Palestine. Now there are people who were born in Brooklyn, and we saw them being interviewed on bloody CNN. People who have "settled" in the West Bank and have the nerve to organize peace initiatives "extending a hand of peace towards the Arabs" whose land they expropriate. It is those people with Brooklyn accents and US passports in their back pockets that Thomas most likely had in mind.

To bring the analogy closer to home, re the settlers. We agree how many settlers we will accept in Cyprus. Agree being the point of reference. How many Arabs of the West Bank agreed to have their land expropriated to build settlements for the latest influxes of Russian, Ethiopian, and US jews?

Take a look at the humiliation that Arabs have to go through at check points to understand what it means to live under what Israel calls a democracy. There is a documentary made by an Israeli which shows this daily grind very vividly, I highly recommend it.

There is nothing more we want then for foreign ships to enter our ports. The israelis if they come will not be stopped and they will be treated well.

Turkey maintains a policy of bringing in thousands of Anatolian colonists to settle in the occupied area...do i agree with this? No, i certainly do not. Just like the Israeli settlers were forced to leave Gaza a few years ago so should the Turkish settlers who outnumber the indigenous Turkish Cypriot population. Of course there is always exceptions and that is a matter for our politicians.

The Jews have a right to exist in their ancestral homeland. That is what the world agreed when witnessing the catastrophe of European Jewry during the second world war.

What i don't understand from you, Bananiot, is how you support an organization like Hamas that has ruthlessly killed fellow Palestinians and openly wishes the destruction of the State of Israel yet continually blast EOKA whose only aim was to rid Cyprus of British colonial rule?
