Strategically speaking…
Dirty politics seems to be the (only) way of the 21st century, so perhaps now is a good time for Cyprus to:
1. Start applying pressure on Israel to supply arms and technology in return for thwarting real and imaginary flotillas and other pro-Palestinian maneuvers. At the very least, all Israeli holidaymakers heading for Turkey should now be redirected to Cyprus.
2. Start milking the US for the fight against “terrorist Islamic infiltrations” from the occupied territory emanating from extremists in Turkey. (Charge a few foreign hardcore criminals with terrorist related crimes and make a spectacle of them)
3. Levy an “Anti-terrorism/piracy” tax to all western countries moving cargo via the Cypriot merchant fleet with the addition of a small anti-terror unit aboard all ships.
4. The “thwarting” of a bogus coup being organized on Cyprus against Mubarak, by arresting and charging undesirable criminal Egyptian nationals, should go a long way in extracting goods and services from Egypt.
Dirty politics is not pretty but the trend has already been set by many others so feel free to comment on the above and/or add your ideas…
