Motorbike engine

Postby Ibrahim » Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:42 am

Hey all, does anyone here know were i can find bike wrecks in cyprus? im looking to buy a good running sports bike engine, water-cooled, 500cc+ something cheap. Isnt there a place were they throw the motorbikes after accidents, not ridable, etc.? Im looking for something cheap too so preferably an old bike model. Any advice would help.
Thanks.

I was born in cyprus and know greek. Ive checked xrises eukeries and a few other papers but they all sell a good running bike which are 1000 euros and up. im looking for something cheap, the bike doesnt have to run i just want a good working engine. that is why im looking for somewere were they sell bikes that were in an accident, not running, not road legal, etc. so i can buy it and use the parts i need. something like a "mantra"(scrap yard) were they stack cars but i need a motorbike.

Perhaps Cyprus is one of those places where nothing is scrapped - except washing machines and refrigerators. Good luck in your search.

So many bikes get wrecked on Cypriot roads every year so they *must* be going somewhere, I'd be interested to find out as well. One option might be asking the official bike service garages like Hondas or Ducatis. A friend wrecked his Ducati and the engine would have ended up at their garage. Same with Honda, I always see a couple of totaled bike sitting in their garage.

hmm good idea. I phoned up mechanics that service bikes, and they gave me nothing. i will try phoning an official bike company, lets hope they know.

Yes alot of accidents happen here, especially with bikes. What can i say, cypriots like speeding.. i remember hearing that every year there is an estimated 100 people die from accidents, excluding the injured ones. in 2008 i know that there were 24 deaths on motorbikes.

Any more advice on were to find wrecked bikes please reply. even if its a hint. anything will help.
Thanks for your time.

I’ve just had an idea… every month (or three months?) the Police auction off stolen bikes & cars that haven’t been claimed so you may find a good bargain there. Go ask at Likavitos Police station for details…

You will be better off looking for body parts. It seems only life is cheap in Cyprus, as to bikes I would ask Oracle if I was you. When ever I hear the word bike, she seems to pop into my head.

Most of the M/cycles that are sold on auctions are ones that have been confiscated (modifications) They can not be registered, they are just for parts.

Do you really want to buy an engine where the previous owner lost his/her life whilst driving it?

My opinion is spend some more money and purchase something more reliable ...

Good luck on the hunt
