Separation is a NON solution

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Separation is a NON solution

One of the fears of reunification I hear is, they (the Greek speaking Cypriots will move up north and outnumber the T/Cs. They also fear the loss of their sovereignty.

But supposing we left things as they are.... would the settlers not assimilate T/Cs into their Anatolian Turkish culture?

Of course some T/Cs would not object to that.

But let us suppose peace failed. Let us suppose we built a higher wall along the Green Line. Let us suppose the TRNC were recognised tomorrow.

I can confidently say that the first thing that TRNC government would do is try to join the EU.

Once it manages (if it does) to finalise the long accession process and it joins the EU, much sovereignty will be handed over to Brussels in many areas such as agriculture, foreign policy, defense etc..

If the TRNC join the eurozone, the Central Bank in Frankfurt will share sovereignty over monetary issue too.

Most importantly though and key to my argument why separation will never work. The EU will allow freedom of movement / settlement etc etc....so those Greek speaking Cypriots some T/Cs fear will be able to move next door.

the eurozone is falling apart at the seems .the worsed thing the trnc could do would be joining the eu, if they did join , they would not have to use the euro, they could keep the lira , as the uk has kept the pound,,as for the movement of people the tc s if they wished could also move south ,Then what you might have is turkey getting into eu ,THEN you would not just have tcs to worry about

Omer, you crack-me up, your hollywood settings and comic book simplicity.

Seriously you should read more diversely than the literature you are currently digesting.

Rubbish in => rubbish out.

I wouldn't put money on the EU evaporating.

As for the TCs evaporating in the future, that's worth a punt. .

I do like that, now we have become your sport again. But this time you are not hunting us. Thank fuck for that.

TCs will survive, even in if it has to be in surrogate bodies of Turkallos. Read Genetics and DNA.

As to any betting the book is open, how much do you wan to bet?
Plonker.
