Meeting postponed

NICOSIA - Thursday’s meeting between President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu was postponed at Christofias’ initiative, after statements by Eroglu questioning the basis of the talks.

Christofias said that he asked for the postponement of the meeting with a view to avoid a crisis and a deadline at the talks and asked for the issue to be discussed by the two leaders’ advisers George Iacovou and Kudret Ozersay, adding that the Turkish Cypriot side agreed to this.

Christofias and Eroglu had a very brief discussion at the venue where the direct talks are held on Thursday morning since Eroglu arrived there before the Greek Cypriot side’s request for the postponement of the meeting was conveyed to him.

“We talked a bit about this process. This was accepted by him. It is clear that Eroglu came under big pressure from his opposition last week and it seems that it is under pressure that the made these statements. Everyone is under some pressure. Either we have the courage to go on, on the basis which is crystal clear, or every time that we are under attack from our domestic front we will review our positions,” Christofias said.
Asked if Eroglu does not want this and is under big pressure, Christofias said: “I don’t know. I can’t talk on Eroglu’s behalf.”

Well I doubt either of them could come up with a package that would PLEASE their 'domestic front' so ... a postponement ... well what's another postponement added to the number of years talks about a 'solution' have been going on?

That's it, Muhtar X is walking out of the talks.

Perhaps a rehearsal for when he walks out of standing for President as he has said he won't if a solution is not reached.

I think most who were interested in the outcome last year have lost interest now.

And still not a word about the FIRST thing these two were supposed to have discussed - PROPERTY?

The issue that it seems to me most of their 'domestic fronts' are concerned with now.

If you read his statement he gave to the UN, that's exactly what he said.

He agreed to continue the talks from where Talat left it, and that his first topic would be Property, but that some underpinning will be rquired on the agreements so far which he is not happy about.

I am only repeating what he said. I was not trying to be funny.

What a prat, sit down and talk, you have issues, proximity talks not going anywhere, then bring them up, it is about the content, stop wasting all the Cypriots time with this wishy washy rubbish. What an excuse for leaving the table. Not even a fig-leaf of an excuse to leave, more like a fig leaf sprout. Stop trying to play to the crowd by blaming the other party for playing to the crowd.
If Eroglu comes up with rubbish then walk out mr C - courage hah - my neighbour's chickens show more courage than him.

If that is what the "clown" is doing then call him up on it based upon the details. Call the b.s. as it effects the proximity talks, the international players will do the rest, all C has done is play further delay tactics.
